Belles nearly WSL2 Champions
« on May 09, 2018, 10:04:56 pm by Bristol Red Rover »
They won 2-1 at Sheffield this eve, coming back from being a goal down. A 4 point lead and 16 goals superiority over 2nd placed Millwall.

The next match at Millwall this Sunday, then the week after, 20th May, it's the final game at the Keepmoat against 8th placed Oxford KO 2pm. Donny's turn for some champagne celebrations at the moat?

Point of order. Millwall are in third. It's Brighton who are second and four points back.

Belles came close to winning the title tonight. Had Watford not had a penalty saved nine minutes from time against Brighton, they'd be six points clear with that hefty goal difference in their favour.

A shame the system is so f**ked up that they won't be promoted. It's stinks to high heaven.

I can imagine that NR could well be back in the football league soon.  I work with a Barnsley supporter who knows someone who knows someone ?????? and supposedly he’s been mentioned as a possible replacement for Morais

Glad to see them doing well can see some of the players leaving at the end of the season to clubs that can pay more.

thats the trouble for the Belles now any good player will be cherry picked by the professional sides, which has happened to them over the last few seasons.

Belles were crowned champions before they even took the field today thanks to Brighton's lunchtime defeat at Durham.

Credit to Millwall - another proper community women's side - who duly gave the Belles a guard of honour onto the pitch. Decent close fought end-to-end game too, with Belles just squeezing out 1-0 winners, before the celebrations could properly begin. I could still hear them celebrating in the changing room as I was walking down the road home.

Deserved title for a young side that've really kicked on under Neil Redfearn since Christmas. Real shame they can't now test themselves at the top level.

Their final game is at home to Oxford on Sunday, 2pm kick-off. Be good to see a decent crowd there to acknowledge their achievement - good way to get your last live football fix before the summer.

Rovers and Belles together would have meant winning the league also brought promotion.

Rovers and Belles together would have meant winning the league also brought promotion.

If only it were that simple Brian, but it really isn't.

To say that makes the assumption that Rovers would be willing to finance the Belles to the level necessary to instantly make the jump from semi-professional to professional, which hasn't ever been on the table before to my knowledge.

Belles and Rovers coming together in the future as part of Club Doncaster is probably likely, but to infer that if they work together all will be solved is a little too simplistic.

How likely is any future further convergence with Club Doncaster? I don't know an awful lot about the Belles but the impression I seem to get is they're quite fiercely independent and wish to remain so.
