Sodgi’s Jailed !
« on January 21, 2019, 12:43:18 pm by since-1969 »
Ex-footballers Efe Sodje, aged 46, and Stephen Sodje, aged 43, and ex-rugby player Bright Sodje, aged 52, were found guilty and jailed for siphoning off money from their family charity, the Sodje Sports Foundation. Shame they were a remarkable family of gifted footballers .

No sympathy, whatsoever. “Efe, Bright and Stephen Sodje set up SSF in 2009 with the stated aim of helping poor children in the Niger delta.”

You coudn’t make it up.

2 years for £20k (presuming the £60k was split evenly) - time is not worth the crime at all, but sentence does seem a bit harsh, especially if it was a first offence?

A bit harsh? They defrauded a charity. Money meant for the disadvantaged pocketed for their own greed. Sentences aren't harsh enough in my opinion.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. The financial value isn't the only factor.

Fair enough. I suppose I was commenting in the wake of ronaldos financial crime in Spain. He failed to pay millions in taxes, which arguable means he stole from the spanish people, and he gets less than 2 years, off which he'll serve no time, and effectively only gets a fine due to Spains weird rule on non-violent setencing.

Financial crime in general does seem to attract longer prison sentences than other crimes.
