French speeding fine
« on March 13, 2019, 10:47:10 pm by gillinghamrover »
Received one today. Offence was last September, €45 if paid now and ramps up the longer you wait. I no longer own the car in which I was caught. My question is.. do I pay or not? If I don’t will I incur the wrath of the french legal system? Any thoughts, serious or otherwise!

Just activate Article 6547 and delay payment until you can reach a deal 👍🏻

The way things work these days when/if we leave the EU you might have to scan your passport on entry if you ever go back to France.
That might throw any unpaid fines up.

I've no idea if you can get away without paying, but you're lucky you didn't break the limit in a hire car.

We did in Italy a few years ago, when driving to the hospital that my wife's grandfather had been rushed into after collapsing (and subsequently dying). We broke the limit twice at the same spot in two days, once by 11 km/h, once by 15 km/h. After Hertz had applied their "admin fee", it cost us over 400 Euros...

Always Hertz when you're slapped with unexpected fees...

Don't pay it. The French NEVER play by the rules.

did they actually post it overseas, or do you have a residence in France?

Posted to my uk address as that’s where the car is registered.

Be wary, I've had camera flashes in France, had a house there, but as my car is registered in the UK, never received a fine demand by post. Perhaps it was a flash and not a picture taken.  Look carefully who sent the fine and check the address of the sender to make sure it's official.

It’s definitely official, website( I’ve looked!) is an official french gov one. Case number/ticket number etc, also had the date I was on the particular motorway, so all legit. If it was a scam I’d be asking for more than €45!

You say that, but if loads of people fall for the same scam then you're raking it in.

If you have committed a traffic offence in France and have received a traffic violation ticket, you can check your offence's file and get more information in the website (in English) of the French National Agency of Automated Traffic Offence Processing (ANTAI).

Have done this, with the relevant case number etc. I have paid didn’t want to chance being pulled over in the future with an unpaid fine in my name/details. Bit the bullet

Yeah, I don't think you had any choice really, I would have paid it too.
