A very sad story, remember big Ernie well,i for one am glad Taylor has gone or will be soon..It has been a mystery to me that someone who was paid so much but achieved so little, kept his job as long as he did...

74 years old and on 2 million a year, Taylor certainly looked after himself.

What does it say about footballers when their representatives  distances themselves from issues which concerns them all ,  such as dementia and the case of Ernie Moss and May well turn out turn out to be classed as an “ industry injury “ as a result of countless heading of a football over his long career . Surly the fees they pay their union has to be money well spent or is it just a lip service union ? Taylor OUT !

I can see why some people would form that opinion of Taylor, however I've met him on numerous occasions and the man is excellent at supporting and helping on all supporter issues. When we were a fledgling supporter organisation with no money he was the 1st to put his hand in his pocket and provide necessary funds.

On all other occasions he's been magnificent, always promoting the supporters cause and badgering others to do the same. We've had access to the PFA offices for many years and have always had meeting rooms FOC.

He's a good guy in my opinion.

He’s a salesman nothing else , who was  Happy  to award himself a huge salary but not pay for an I depended enquiry into sports related dementia.

If you say so, but I doubt that you know anything about him apart from what you've read.

Thats all good and well, but is'nt it Taylor's job to help and support the Professional footballers, not the fans?Im not knocking any support the fans or fans organisations get, they are well deserved, but surely his priority should be the professional footballers and their families etc?

Of course, and I wasn't disputing that. But has anybody actually looked at the amount of work that the PFA actually does on behalf of its members? It's quite an organisation and extremely good at what it does.

Whatever the circumstances I’m really sad to hear Ernie is so ill. I’ve very fond memories of his one season with us where his goals were vital to us being promoted. Ernie and Duggie up front were a formidable partnership.

it's one of those were there's going to be different opinions..Martin has had first hand experience of him and has worked with him and we all know he doesn't suffer fools gladly so I respect what he says about him..However the ex pro footballers I know have always had the impression that if it's a big name player he cant wait to help and get involved, however if your a lower league footballer then they didn't get the impression he really was that bothered..
The one thing I would say is that his salary is absolutely obscene regardless...

I have absolutely no doubt that the PFA does some good work but it's not really relevant or crucial to players in the Premier League or the upper echelons of the Championship as most of them are earning enough money and have alternatives to fall back on should they need help. Therefore, it should be concentrating on the lower leagues, which it doesn't. I've met Gordon Taylor, he wasn't particularly friendly and came across as arrogant and I agree with everything said about his salary. It's obscene and wholly inappropriate given the struggles of some of the union's members but the PFA needs to ensure Taylor's influence does not extend beyond his time at the helm.

I think some posters on here should stop reading the headlines about Gordon Taylor and start looking at what the PFA actually does.

I think people can be justified in raising questions about the level of salary he receives Martin. If I have read it correctly on the last published accounts the PFA'S Income including grants and members contributions was just under £17 million..Gordon Taylor took £2.2 million of that in salary, benefits and bonus..That surely has to be far too much...
Which basically means that for every grant the pfa receives 13% of it goes straight into his bank account..I don't know any company/union around whoes CEO gets paid that kind of percentage..
