''UK will not switch to Sunday voting, MPs told''

''A key problem in holding elections on weekends was the impact on different faith groups, he told MPs''

With religion on the wane this should not be an argument, now if they had said football that would be different.

Isnt it about time it was a secure app linked to 2-factor authentication?  Just about everyone would vote then.  Or, as I suspect, are they quite happy with low turnouts for public votes?

What would be the benefit of moving though? seems pointless.

I assume he means aswell as the usual ways but 90% of modern phones have 2 factor authentication, not just iPhones x

Not everybody uses the internet on their phone. I don't for one.

Agreed.
I would imagine that a large percentage of people use a postal vote system now anyway.
The phone thing is just an additional option so it isn’t really an issue, just an option.

So with postal votes and technology therefore less people queueing it could easily be done on the weekend giving people more opportunities to vote.

Originally it was felt after WW1 that market day/early closing day was the best time.

As it is not really relevant these days, time for a change to Sunday IMO.

Not just this though....the whole shebang needs to be brought into this century!

If e-voting comes in, as it surely will, the polls would be able to remain open much longer, maybe several days.

Who should we sell the contract to - Fujitsu or Huawei?

And how exactly do you do a recount of e-votes, because without a physical representation of the vote each every one will have to go through some sort of verification?

I don't claim to understand the technology, but surely it can be achieved.

I have a postal vote but if I didn't I'd still go out and vote on election days. But I'm sure some form of electronic system would greatly improve turnout, especially among young people, who are used to be able to do everything online.
