Preffered Centre Back Pairing
« on May 17, 2019, 02:21:02 pm by Move DRFC »
Ok so we're lucky to have 4 very good centre backs at the club. 3 fit at the moment.

Who would everyone have for tonight? I really rate Downing but actually think we look better when Anderson plays. I'd have Butler tonight as his leadership qualities will be vital.

For me tonight - Anderson & Butler.

Looking forward, I think from next season onwards we should start to build the back 4 around Wright and have him Anderson and Downing (hopefully he signs) as our main 3.

The three you have chosen are all good but they all prefer to play right of a pair. With only Butler playing Left of a pair.

Think they play on the right because Butler is left footed. A professional centre back should have no dramas about playing on the left if they're right footed. They're all decent on the ball anyway.

Anderson makes the rest of the team nervous I think with how poor he is on the ball

Anderson is alright on the ball, certainly no worse than Butler. And it was Downing making simple errors with the ball at his feet in last Sunday's game.

I’ve watched Anderson a bit. He’s actually decent on the ball - doesn’t waste much. I’d play him and one of the other two. Anderson will let them know who’s boss.

The way Anderson moves makes people think he's bad on the ball, when in reality, he's really not.

I’d be all for downing and Anderson   I rate butler and get the leadership issue but look st their front line and think butler could be a bit short of pace

I 100% disagree, hes our best ball playing CH by far.  Watch downing , he will hoof it or pass it sideways.  Tom will split the lines with a great pass to BW.

He did, was a mountain at the back. But his tweet after the game sounds a bit like a goodbye...

Of course mate.

"1st of all i’d like to thank all the players/staff/club for being a pleasure to work with and a massive thanks to the fans for all your support. #drfc #beproud
Thanks Butts."

I will say though, in his Football Heaven interview he spoke of next season in terms of "us" and "we", so we shall see.

I like centre backs to chip in with a couple a goals or three a season and be a bloody handful in the opposition box from set pieces and towers of strength in our box...

Anderson and Butler are probably more inclined towards this in my opinion, however if Butler is moving on I’d make Anderson Captain and the responsibility of creating a well oiled fortress at the back...he is a leader in the making if ever I saw one....
