This is me.
« on May 19, 2019, 04:01:54 pm by Gelan Swift »
I don't have a home forum wise as I am banned from both CL and ITTV, but this one feels just like home because we are all fans of football...one family, that's it.  I started to watch Charlton in 1964, not that I was interested in football, but because I was autistic (undiagnosed) and mentally ill because I didn't know what was wrong with me...an oddball that didn't fit in anywhere, and it was to be at The Valley that I found enough comfort in amongst the covered end misfits and hooligans to stay on this planet (yep, a few suicidal near misses)

So, do I get mad, crazy or down when we lose?  No!  For me Charlton is all about the fans...how they feel and the out pouring of emotions.  I have a good life, a very good life so Charlton not winning never effects me, it's part of the balance of life, but for many it can be the one reason they can cope with a shit job, shit partner, shit life etc.

If we go up, the hate towards Duchatelet will fade, and I can once again relax and watch from the side
lines...fans like these once embraced my strange persona and basically saved my life.

I enjoy football now, and as there are no rules on supporting more than one team I will nail my colours to the Donny mast and support you in spirit at least.

You'll storm Div 1 next season because I say so.  Belief is at maths core, but the universe works on deals so expect some conflict.  Be forgiving when results aren't great, it will pay off.

I use my maths skills to make people happy, you have no reason to believe anything I say, but then again no reason not to believe.

Thanks for my new home.

ps. I cannot be offended.

Thanks for the well wishes, I hope your prediction that we storm the division is better than your one that Charlton would storm us on Friday night 😜!

All the best for the playoff final, and next season (except if it involves games against us!)

How is The Angerstein ? Still going ?

I had to work in London now and again and realised that I could get two games in in two nights but it would mean staying in the Charlton area

So I chose the above Pub as it had a few Rooms I seem to recall. They said I would have to share if someone else came but thankfully nobody did

First time I went to The Valley was in February 1981 , a third division promotion clash , the game ended 1-1 and the Charlton line up contained the prolific Derek Hales and a young Paul Walsh who had a very good career at Spurs and Liverpool .

Both teams gained promotion that season ironically , we finished second and Charlton third , an omen hopefully .

I'll never forget that huge terrace on one side of the ground back then , it was absolutely massive , at the top of it you could see the then new Thames flood barrier .

Charlton had crowds of 60k at one time and stood on that terrace that day you could see how they accommodated them .

Always enjoyed my visits to that neck of London despite our less than impressive record at The Valley .

Yes that terrace was enormous. I stood on there on the night I went - and it was sparsely populated

I thought then I can see how they got their then record crowd of 75000 - bet they got 40000 on there

Cant remember much else about the game except it was not anyone I was interested in - just Ground collecting
