tyke. agree what your saying, I have been working in these areas for years now and all I get is rugby talk, mention football and I get a blank stare. if it wasn't for the egg chases your ground would be a sell out week in week out. so I think what you get ,in the area is great. I am now working back in Thorne, my home town, and bugs me to say that all the work mates are local and support anybody but DRFC

It's a funny one as to why Rovers don't get more through the gate than they do .

I thought Ryan marketed the club superbly and got you up to around the 7 to 10k mark but seemed to hit a wall at those numbers .

I worked In Doncaster for a few years in the early 2000's , right at the time you were climbing back and very successful and Rovers fans were greatly outnumbered by Leeds which I couldn't get my head around to be honest .

My town genuinely loves the club , there's a real affinity and a connection , even from those who don't get along too often , in the pub on a Saturday night they all want to know how we are playing and what have you , bug you to death some of em and I can't help thinking why don't you bloody find out for yourselves .

You can criticise players and managers all day long around here , criticise the club and it's like criticising the Pope at mass on a sunday morning .

A real sacred cow because believe me much of the criticism is warranted at times .

Like you said Tyke1962.  Too many Leeds fans chasing the glory days of the past that are very unlikely to return.
I suppose you could be looking at 3rd generations of Leeds fans following their family as fans do
It’s such a shame as it could make a big difference to our club

We are hearing that Malik will sign this week for a championship club that will allow him to remain living in the Leeds area .

The only problem for us is that Hull City want him too and we all know who manages them these days .

Interesting to see how this plays out .

It wouldn't have been so bad working with the Donny Leeds fans but the majority were the Sky Sports type and never went anywhere near Elland Road .

Although I did work with a huge Donny fan who followed you to every game home and away and popped along to Belle Vue with him many times for your Conference games when we didn't have a game .

Boiled my blood at times to see your club in such a position because of that bstrd Richardson .

Hearing Leeds only want 900k for the lad , I would imagine there's a significant sell on clause attached to that mind you .

Given his court case is now not until next summer, you would imagine any cautious club would probably have him on a year loan with then option to buy - otherwise you are handing over 1m plus for a player who might not as it were exist in a year.

You'd imagine so however Stendel could sell sand to the Arabs .

His infectious enthusiasm might just make the difference .

Not hugely confident but you never know .

Hull don't have an additional 900k.

They're currently getting no interest in the top three players that they could move on.

We are wanting him on a seasons long loan , ain't no way we are going to part with nearly a million quid on a lad who could lose his liberty whilst under contract with us .

How Hull City see it I don't know but that's what we are hearing .

To tell the truth I ain't that bothered either way , a bit too much baggage for me .

They will get £10m for Bowen all day long.

You never appreciate what you have until it is gone and that is true of most of our senior players.

Now all the best available players have been picked over by the early pickings, it will be interesting to see who we end up with, but don't think for one second that a playoff slot last season will guarantee us a playoff spot again. McCann has left us weaker than when he arrived and he will probably poach players that he was going to sign for Rovers. We probably won't have the luck of a Mallik Wilks or Herbie Kane this season.

Don't get your hopes up too high as it's going to be a tough season. I suspect we peaked last season.

I could never be a Blades, Owls, Barnsley or Leeds fan but if you want see better quality football why go to see Rovers with these teams close by if you live on that side of Doncaster. Maybe the Richardson days did a lot of harm to the club that we have never recovered from, or the inconsistent performance lets us down (being in league two recently).

Oh well, it is what it is as a club and we just seem to spend every summer waiting and waiting  .....

Michael, you say that best best players have already gone but I see that as of today we still have Whiteman and Marquis who most of our fans would recognise as being amongst our best players.
They haven’t gone.
Yes, I know they won’t be going for free but who is to say that our new manager won’t be given funds to bring in some players who also won’t be for free as well.
There will be lots of very good players out there who are out of contract from today and I feel sure that we will get some of them.

It is a given that the play off place of last year won’t guarantee us the same this season, again most supporters will know that.

There is no need to be so downhearted about things.

Arogrant McCann has gone and we move on with our club.

I admit I am quite furious that the club allowed Rowe, Butler and Marosi to go when we could afford them in  previous years.

Rowe signed 18/05/2016, Butler signed 23/10/2014, Marosi signed 07/08/2014. Were they not loyal players? More loyal than our managers!.

If we have a similar budget as in previous years what was the problem?

We can only hope McCann doesn't suck Marquis into Hull to sit on the bench. I am sure there is mutual respect there and anything can happen in football.

Hound, I won't argue about Whiteman and Marquis being 2 of our best but we need 11 really good players to get back into the playoffs. I have considerable respect for the players we have lost and obviously at this stage who comes in is unknown.  It's usually perceived that an early start at building next year's team  is a positive, so being at the back end of building a team is presumably a negative.

Here's hoping we get some light at the end of another long summer tunnel ...

I too am sad that Butler (in particular) and Marosi have been sent packing.
Rowe is undoubtably a good player too but is injury prone and in my opinion, he didn’t look too interested at times last season so I am not too bothered by him moving on.
Despite his advancing years, Butler was one of our best and most consistent players over the last couple of seasons and I would have been confident that he would have been so in the upcoming season.
I am led to believe that he didn’t want to go either.

As for Marosi, I reckon there is nothing between him and Lawlor but it appears that new rules may have dictated his being allowed to leave.

However, players come and go so hopefully we will adequately replace them.

Are you able to name some of these players that we’ve missed out on?

Nick, I won't bother listing all the players that have come from Chelsea, West Ham, Man Utd, Spurs, Cardiff, Wolves, Wigan, etc, etc.  into other League One clubs.

How do you know they’re the best available? That anyone from down south would have been willing to move north? That, had McCann still been here, we’d have been willing to pay the players what they wanted?

I think it’s just a sweeping statement of negativity with no basis in fact.

When do premier league teams have to name their squad - that usually prompts a raft of loan moves. Not sure when we got Kane and Wilks but it certainly wasn’t early doors and I seem to recall the negativity surrounding us only signing “kids” when we needed experience

Here are the signings from the clubs you've mentioned. Some may turn out to be excellent signings but I'm not going to lose sleep over missing out on any of them. I also think that clubs will sign better players than most if not all of these between now and the end of the window.

Chelsea
- Fankaty Dabo (Coventry, Free Transfer)
- Richard Narty (Burton Albion, Free Transfer)

West Ham
- Nathan Trott (Wimbledon, Loan)

Man Utd
- Matty Willock (Gillingham, Free Transfer)
- Regan Poole (MK Dons, Free Transfer)

Spurs
- Conor Ogilvie (Gillingham, Free Transfer)

Cardiff
- Stuart O'Keefe (Gillingham, Free Transfer)wolveswo

Wolves
- Ethan Ebanks-Landell (Shrewsbury, Free Transfer)
- Kevin Berkow (Oxford, Free Transfer)

Wigan
- Shaun MacDonald (Rotherham, Free Transfer)

We signed Herbie Kane about 3 days before the first game of the season last year, and that turned out okay, didn't it?

The transfer market has not yet kicked into gear this summer.

Hearing that Leeds want Malik off the books permanently whether that's anything to do with the lads court case I don't know .

Both ourselves and Hull will only take him on a years loan because of the court case next year .

I can't imagine any other interested club would sign him permanently either given the circumstances .

Something will clearly have to give here and I'd expect Malik will have a choice on who he goes on loan to rather than who he joins permanently .

There's nothing to suggest that under the present situation with Malik that Rovers couldn't join the chase too with a loan deal .

Yeah, and City fans that I work with are convinced that they won't see a penny of it and it will just be subtracted from the £50+m asking price for the club.
