Toughest Start
« on September 23, 2019, 03:23:16 pm by RoversAlias »
Dominic Jerams, who runs a Coventry fan site and does great analysis on the division, posted a table on Twitter calculating the perceived difficulty of each team's games so far this season. Here it is:

https://twitter.com/SideSammy/status/1176132502865555456?s=09

"Also, Saturday's opponents, Doncaster Rovers, have had comfortably the toughest start to the season. All of their opponents thus far have been at least in the top 10 when they've played them.

AFC Wimbledon, Southend United and Portsmouth have had some of the toughest fixtures thus far and are struggling, which further emphasises just how well Doncaster have done."

More proof of how good a start we've made to the season under Darren Moore.

Yeah thinking about it we've played most of the team's you'd expect to be up there already. Only really Coventry, Pompey and Oxford left who you'd class as top 6 potential.

Still have a bit of a worry with our goal scoring where teams just park the bus and look to nick a goal, just like blackpool did.

I’m sure someone on here posted a few weeks back, that our first 10 games are against teams expected to finish in the top half top 6 this season, then after the Portsmouth game, we have a run of 10 games at the supposedly  lesser teams in the division! Will be interesting to see where abouts we are after the first 10 games, then after 20, which I believe will give us a better understanding of where we might end up!! Ofcause it’s not helped this year with the way the league has planned out at the start! Bury getting kicked out and scabby Bolton cancelling our game! So until we have all played the same number of games (which won’t happen until the end of the season) we will really see where we are or end up finishing off! 🤷🏻‍♂️

This means nothing so early in the season.

This means nothing so early in the season.

It does Keith, because we only have to play those strong teams once now, having already had good results against them. Many teams still have to play them twice.

Apart from injuries and suspensions, what evidence is there so far that many teams in this league are capable of turning us over?

This means nothing so early in the season.

Sorry but I beg to differ, that coupled with the fact that we are in 7th and have played 2 games less than some teams is significant.

This means nothing so early in the season.

At what point in the season would you say trends become significant? Taken to the extreme you could say nothing is significant until everyone has played all their games and the season is over.

Excellent performance by DM and the boys so far....

We still have to play 10 of the bottom 12 for the first time, even at this stage of the season, you can see signs of the table taking shape....

It’s a good stat
Although teams like Pompey and oxford have started off slowly so their positions are low but they would’ve been hard games for whoever has played them.
And I expect both to be around the top 6 come May and certainly above sides like Wycombe

Take into account we didn’t have a manager and hardly any players at start of the preseason we have done incredibly well.

The players and management team deserve huge credit for starting so well. Just need to keep picking them points up and start to build a gap to 1st the bottom 3, then bottom half, then 7th down hopefully that will be in February time then the final push for the top 2

We also have to take into account we have played more home games as part of our total.

We lost away trips to Bolton and Bury, which we could argue would have put us top.

Either way, we keep passing the tests that are put in front of us which makes it particularly impressive even allowing for the Blackpool blip.
