My nephew is doing a renewable energy degree at Brighton University he told me that the North Sea is a superb location for wind power production and he stated last month that by 2050 The North Sea would be Providing 40% of Europes Power.
This week the Crown Estate auctioned off licenses to power companies to develop Dogger Bank,that has generated a nice windfall (cough cough) for the treasury. Also this week it was announced that the price of wind power development has fallen by two thirds to £40 per Watt/ hour Hinckley point is costing roughly £80 an hour.this means that future development of the North Sea wind power industry will not cost us the U.K. Taxpayer a single penny what it means in real terms
Is that by 2045 The North Sea wind power hub will be producing enough electrics to supply 126 million homes! There are currently 25 million homes in the U.K.
So as far as I'm concerned roll on Brexit!
If the Jocks want to go let them! Although they would be daft to do so!
Same for the Welsh! . Stay in the Union and help us 'Milk' the EU! The remainder of the Eu can pay through the nose for their electricity!

Yes mate but Dogger Bank is the ideal place due to depth of water, and it's a wind funnel, hence the massive interest from the power companies

I agree if it all happens it's great news for planetary survival but I don't get the connection with brexit. Energy will be bought and sold as per market forces and I would have thought there would be nothing to stop the producers putting any price they like on it to whom they like, in or out of the EU?

The UK government has promised to pay EDF a fixed fee, subject to annual increases, of £92.50 (in 2012 prices) per megawatt-hour for 35 years.

Market forces would mean no new nuclear....the alternatives, combined with battery storage, are very much cheaper.

The import/export of energy will depend upon tariff barriers after brexit, which we do not know.
The UK is dependent upon the EU interconnectors to smooth out demand peaks at the moment.

Thanks Albie, EDF, are they the ones that are to develop Dogger Bank? whats the connection, genuine enquiries, not across that at all.

EDF are the developers of Hinckley Point nuclear, and the price of leccy is set as above.

The point is that it is over twice as expensive as renewables like offshore wind. The cost of wind is continuing to fall.

It is likely that renewables with storage will continue to expand, but the possibility of trading energy across EU borders is not set out yet because of the brexit alternatives.

i do know that when the wind is too powerful as measured on the Beaufort scale (cough cough) they have to be turned off
