Say NO to Bradholme ! (Thorne)
« on November 14, 2019, 12:18:06 pm by Donnywolf »
Dont know if there are many Thorne people on here or its surrounding area but have a look at this :

https://gateway180.co.uk/?fbclid=IwAR2QQs_xlUZutH3R5Wz9T_iGmuFp99EzS6BihLpehQk2i18z0GANwfR3FRo

This area was refused Planning Permission twice in the past - but they have come back again. If you know Thorne you will be able to see the massive scale of the proposed development which lies in / on a flood risk area. It was the course of the Old River - and the Drain flowing through it is problamatic to say the least in times like now

Grampian Way has flooded in the past even with that Drain being pumped off as fast as it could go - and yet "they" are now going to put 16 in number Warehouses and businesses up to 60 feet high and of course impervious to rain - and surrounded by hard standings such as Roads and Car Parks and EXPECT there to be no flooding risk as they are building a settlement pond

If you care please use the link to register your protest with Gateway and or DMBC. Gateway Orange Tab top right)

Thanks DW. I live just off Southend and couldn't believe what was being proposed when the publicity leaflet dropped into my letterbox. Utter madness.

I live on Southend opp Swanlands and though I should be immune from flooding being protected by the Canal it is very worrying for Grampian Way residents

I met the guy who wrote the Letter on Saturday as he was delivering them and he said a couple of his neighbours were slightly flooded last weekend - but they really got pasted a few years back. It will be a problem for them if that goes ahead

Here is what I posted on Twitter recently

We are getting a pressure group going - because we must beat this once and for all.

I've put this on the tab on the Gateway site Wolf:

've read the articles and publicity about the Gateway 180 development with ever increasing disbelief. I thought it was a joke at first tbh.

If this is a serious attempt to obtain approval for what is proposed, then I am forced to wonder just what the agenda may be.

- Development on a flood plain?
- Development on the course of the old river?
- Development in an area drained by 'The Drain' which is problamatic to say the least
- Development in an area where Grampian Way has flooded previously even with the Drain being pumped as fast as possible
- Development in an acknowledged flood risk area with of large buildings impervious to rain, ,and surrounded by hard standings such as roads and car parks

A settelment pond is hardly going to manage the ever increasing flood risk from global warming.

This is a ridiculous proposal. It's merit must surely be money. Why else would anyone, anyone, ever propose something as risible as this?

Yes thanks for that Bob - I think they will as they say "pick the bones out of that"

I suggested recently a Golf Course although there are 2 within a few Miles and was told - good idea" but Gateway already own half the Land - the other by the Gillat family who live on the Farm in the centre of the land

The irony of course is that with the suffix Holme - Bradholme I would imagine was an island surrounded by water

Thorne Council were and say they are totally against the development and a speculative build for Tesco (of a giant Warehouse) failed to get through but it coincided with Tesco woes of the time

They were going to ship in Containers to Immingham and send them by lorries 24/7 to Thorne (carbon footprint) - stacking them in Warehouse before - again 24/7 sending them on to their ultimate destinations.

They had another go 18 months ago which failed too mainly because the Land does not carry Employment status and is designated as a Countryside area (terminologies may not be exactly right)

So many thanks indeed for the input
