The most shocking campaign video yet
« on November 25, 2019, 06:23:39 pm by wilts rover »
The Daily Mail, yes the Daily Mail, have caught a Tory candidate lying on camera - and then shown it on their website!! The world really has gone mad

The video is brilliant btw. The candidate is door knocking and the householder says he is a foormer Labour voter who wont ever vote for them again.

Then it turns out the bloke is actually a mate of his and the interview was set up for the journalist - the candidate forgetting that he had a mike on for the camera!

Nevermind. I'm sure there's a video of a Labour canvasser picking their nose to balance this out.

Not seen the common theme yet lads? It's always coming from the Right isn't it? This treating of the viewer and voter as though they are thick as pigshit and can be treated with this contempt.

I keep asking for folk to post equivalent evidence of Labour engaging in this sort of antic...

Maybe you could fill in the details of it as the bit offered doesn't give any proof, just a headline, thanks bp

Bpool.

I'm not opening the Mail link for reasons already given. I (and Wikipedia for what it's worth) don't trust them as a truthful source.

As for the Telegraph link, that's shocking, but I think you're missing the point. I'm talking about the Tory PARTY and CANDIDATES lying and cheating. There's no evidence in the Telegraph article of the Labour party having anything to do with those fake accounts. Frankly, anyone could be responsible for that.

So I'll ask my question a bit more specifically. Is there any evidence of the Labour party putting out knowing and deliberately fake information, in the way we have seen the Tories do on numerous occasions in this campaign?

Bpool.

Ta for the synopsis.

If it's the one I'd heard of, it was a stupid mistake, and the video was withdrawn immediately when it was pointed out and Welsh Labour apologised.

Is that the one?

Contrast that with the Tories' attitude when they've been shown to deliberately pump out lies. Like the doctored video of Kier Starmer. Or the doctored BBC website about school investment. Or changing the name of their Twitter feed to "Fact Check UK". Or several other examples. They've been asked to apologise and they've said "f**k off".

So yes, I agree, it is mainly coming from the Tories. And it's very frightening to be honest.

I agree with Billy (that's shocked him ) Whilst our Politics are at different ends I'm a firm believer that it's imperative that people get to make their choice on the truth..The Tory's seem to think they have carte blanch to manipulate information to suit their end..

In fairness with Labour it is different yes a lot of what they say wont happen ie broadband, dental and this ridiculous pledge on council houses that even the building industry is laughing at,but at least they believe it.The nurse was more of a mistake by the production company tasked with making it rather than the Party themselves.Yes it was shown but they pulled it straight away as they had to..

With the Tory's they do it on purpose, this stupid claim on new Nurses which includes 19,000 Nurses we already have is laughable as was "fact check uk" and they knew it and still did it so there is a difference..

Thing is I don't know what they think it achieves, one of the biggest issues with the electorate is mistrust in our Politicians you would think the people running the campaign would thing "Right, everything need to be whiter than white and let the opposition make the errors as they need to push the boundary's of what they can offer"

Whatever your Politics there are certain lines that shouldn't be crossed...

I appreciate that post WingCo.

I've been saying for a while that this is a subject which is miles beyond party politics. The denial of objective truth is THE most frightening development of the last few years and it has to be resisted wherever it comes from.

But it IS a fact that it's coming overwhelmingly from the Right at the moment. Steve Bannon inspired it in the States. He's had regular meetings with Johnson and Rees-Mogg in the last couple of years. And of course, we have our own version already here in Dominic Cummings.

It's worked in the States. It looks like it's going to work here. Maybe I'm in a minority in fearing for the future if this sort of approach is what you need to do to win.

I agree with this also, no side of any party should be involved in it, be honest and be judged as such, simple.  If you can't do that you're in it for the wrong reasons.

BFYP

Then we've got to call it out unequivocally and not play the false equivalence game for "balance".

That last sentence of yours BFYP. I couldn't agree more.

But we now have a PM who built his entire career on peddling lies about the EU to the gullible.

Do you think HE is in this game for the right reasons?

it would appear this is what I call Modern Impact Politics, and yes it has come from America i agree.Politicians have sat back and seen how well it works.Of course those of us who take a active interest in Politics see through it but of course it's not aimed at us is it,its aimed at the people who matter in these elections..The people who have no real interest in it who can be persuaded to put a x in a box with the minimal of thought of what they are doing based on a quick soundbite accurate or not..

I respect everybodys opinion as long as they have put the effort into it,evaluated and come to a decision on what they think is best, even if its the polar opposite to mine.Sadly a lot dont and as long as the figures tell them it's working and having a nett positive effect at the ballot box i fear it's only going to get worse..

I understand it takes Russia 2 to 3 years to destabilise a country. 5 years to bring it to crisis. Even though I think the long term danger, to all of us, lies in Pekin, the master of Red Square pulls all our strings today. That bloke is a bloody genius. When there's trouble, any trouble, in any context, ask yourself 'Who benefits from this?'. That'll start to give you the lines along which the trouble is flowing.  Putin is remaking the world.
