I wonder what the justification was if it was Moore putting contract talks off? Other than he knew he would be going and it might make it easy for him to pick a few of them up in the aftermath.

Seems Butler is a bit more keen to get these started asap than his predecessor. Good news imo.

It appears Butts is happy to have a bigger workload than Moore, I wonder if Moore wasn’t the hard working type we thought he was, happy to be Sky Sports pundit when there was work to do here

Butler seems to be very hands on and I am glad he is giving the contracts some serious attention.
That in itself will add to the respect that players have for him.

The thought crossed my mind, which would be a shame and a shoddy way to do business. If you're being charitable you could say DM wanted to know what division we'd be in to adjust the offers accordingly/spend the budget elsewhere.

All good to hear but this is where AB will have to confront the harsher side of the job. Welcome to being a football manager!

I would have though that it would have been a good incentive to offer players a new contract which included a percentage pay rise if we were to be promoted.
That way we might have been able to secure our better players and at the same time give them an extra reason to want promotion.

The only potential problem being Andy Butler is only contracted to the end of the season - who are they signing to be managed by, will they play/want them. No certainties could create an issue here, hopefully not though.

As we now know the calibre of DM, the thought is in my mind that he was deliberately running down contracts in order to get players cheaply when he jumped ship. Get the contracts sorted asap, then make the cheats from S6 pay a proper price for players if they want to sign them, and I would bump any price offered by at least half amillion when they come enquiring with their fair-weather manager. That's if he has a job by then!

If I'm being honest Hound I agree with that. I just don't see DM's reasoning at all but I don't want to believe he'd deliberately sabotage us in order to help his next club.

U also have to think that the players won’t have appreciated Moore leaving like he did without saying anything, so theres a good chance that they won’t even go there if he did want them

That’s fine Bailey but players and managers will all sell there soul to the Devil, if they think it will do them any good, as they are all in it for themselves

Good to hear contract talks could be started maybe the six figure compensation as help to reignite these talks.

Also I can’t see that DM was contacted on Sunday and left on Monday with his assistant manager and he also had time to sort out another coach to join them.

What Fej wants to realise Hillsborough has been a strikers grave yard for years, that's even if they consider going for him.
They need to get on with paying the players they have now according to their contracts without bothering about players they might want in future.
Looks like we have a players manager to me, makes a change from the last few.

When the club announced that the delay was due to the salary cap discussions, did that come from Moore or Baldwin? Perhaps that genuinely was why it was delayed, but now Butler is in place he wants to focus on it more urgently?

The players, and manager, are all on a bonus structure if we're promoted. That would cost somewhere in the region of £1.5m. That should be incentive enough!

Bearing in mind the club still have no income, then the owners will be digging deep into their pockets again.

Two key points that are not connected, and the first is just incredulous. Why would the club need a six figure compensation package to restart talks with the players? Steve you're on a different planet.

Amazing the way that some on here have reacted to DM leaving as though it was a relief . He brought his experience and influence to the club and persuaded the board to keep spending when their instincts may have been to hold in to every penny . Last season had we not stopped early , IMO he would have taken us again to the play offs  .
He began this season without a proper preseason and still brought in very high quality young players and got them all working hard and kept us at the right end of the league with games in hand . He achieved more in a few months under all the restrictions and constraints of Covid that many managers would have folded under the strain , yet never looked more than a consummate Profesional throughout .
Give him a break , he was offered the  opportunity  to go to higher devision with bigger club and he couldn’t  refuse the approach . I wish him well his failure or success will not have any barring on the rest of this season with the players and staff at DRFC .

Mad how you managed to slip in a thinly veiled dig at the board there.
