Joe Bursik

Signed for Lincoln on emergency loan. How many clubs can a player play for in one season? I was sure it was only 2. But this will be his 4th club this season.

It's different for emergency loans.

That'd explain some of his performances for us.

Joe Lumley was another loan keeper we fetched in who looked decent, add the two age group England players we had and Jones stood up as good as any, and emphasizes just how good he is to me.

Bursik, Lumley and Balcolmbe were all decent keepers.

Thought Balcolmbe was the most commanding of them all. Very strong on crosses although the Anderson injury I did think affected his confidence for a time.
Just his impetuous rush of blood in the Lincoln and Accrington games which unfortunately he will be remembered for. Cut that out and someone is going to get a very good Keeper imo.

Jones has done well. Needs to improve his decision making on coming for crosses, just needs to be more commanding in that part of his game.
Would be happy to see him given the jersey next season. Needs games. Can only improve if given the opportunity to do so.

The fact that we are talking about four different keepers behind our defence this season might just highlight why we had so few clean sheets.
In my opinion our number one should be our own player and that would hopefully help the defenders.
In recent seasons there have been too many occasions when loan keepers have been recalled.

Of all the keepers we’ve had, over the last couple of seasons, none can compare with Seny Dieng. If we can get someone like Dieng, I’d be more than happy and if Jones gets somewhere near that standard, then, I agree, he’s our No.1.

I just think we need someone older and a bit more experienced, if we’re to achieve what the Board desire, i.e. for us to be challenging for a top 6 place (which will be much more difficult next season).

Alan, it could be easier. The big clubs in our division have just lost a load more money this last season than we have, are stuck with players on big wages who in Sunderland's case have failed three years in a row, and is the salary cap still on for division 1 and 2 I am not sure now.
The clubs coming down are not all that, the Wednesday likely to have to have a big reset and all three have to live with the Championship teams they competed with this season coveting any players they might have who they fancy and losing them.
Portsmouth, Ipswich, Charlton, and Oxford  if there  still is a salary cap will have to move nearer to it and have a shake out, I think it will be interesting to see who can and who can't invest in re jigging their teams for the coming season.

Vote of confidence in Jones that he was on par with the three loanees. Didn’t think any of them were exceptional though. Difference being that Jones is ours to work with.

Agree Alan, Deing was a class act for his age.
Has now made the QPR keepers jersey his in the Championship.
No surprises to me in that. Best keeper since Sam Johnstone easily.

We now need to get our own keeper so we are not chopping and changing every 2 months or so.
Let us hope Jones can develop into the quality keeper we need.

Think he probably will but it’s just because Pope’s injured. Pickford & Henderson are nailed on but I’m struggling to think who would be next in line other than Johnstone - McCarthy or Forster maybe? I imagine Johnstone is above both of them though.
