It would be wonderful, Wilts, wouldn't it, if these people would, or even could, write in the Queens' English....?

Cheers

It would, indeed, Bob, but then you would have the legal profession moaning that they don’t understand the Queen’s English!

I think my news about the upheaval at Swindon and a play on words has turned into a full on English language row

They really are in the brown stuff. Manager and assistant resigned after a month, creditors owed about £4m, no season tickets sold and another court appearance due in September. Some fans are prepared for the worst. Another Bury or Macclesfield?

Bob has an annoying, but regular habit of using ellipsis incorrectly to ridicule others for incorrect grammar. Some people…

Does it really matter? Can clearly understand what it says. People obviously with too much time on their hands have to critique everything

You are completely missing the point, rovers. You are quite right that it shouldn’t matter. However, we are talking about someone who calls people illiterate, or such like, quite regularly, for making grammatical errors. Very often, as he insults other posters, he makes similar grammatical errors. As Nick said, people in glass houses…

The comma after wonderful is correct, actually. The main mistake was the apostrophe being in the wrong place in "Queens'". Because it's in the singular rather than the plural, it should have been "Queen's".

Correct Scawsby.Thank you. I spotted it just now when I re-read this thread. I'm still glad that Fowlers Modern English Usage continues to exist!

And it just gets worse…

Paul Jewell, DoF, has also left apparently. Well, at least John Sheridan is no longer manager. Good luck for that!
