Should we be miffed? Should Palace fans be annoyed now they dont have a cup run, knocked out by a club that spent beyond their means while others stayed within their financial limit? Sheffield U, Luton, Burnley all presumably would have a better chance of staying up if they just spent

They’re being punished with a points deduction (likely more than one), kicking them out of every competition they’re in seems a bit extreme. If Sheff Utd, Luton or Burnley can’t stay up when one of their weakest rivals has a 12-20 points deduction then they deserve to go down.

They were definitely helped by being able to send on a £26m international as a sub!

But it’s all subject to appeal.

So, not definitive yet.

Opening post fair point.
Funny though , Everton and Forest sent straight to the headmasters office…
Man City just carry on

Little bit different. 115 charges to 1/2 charges. Everton’s and forests is simple they have losses over the 105m threshold over 3 seasons. Man City’s charges are related to sponsorship being inflated above market rate allowing them to spend more than they would have been allowed otherwise and payments to managers being higher than they allocated in their financial reports. A lot harder to prove.

Around 80 of those charges relate to failing to provide up to date financial reports for a 7 year period and then off the back off that failing to cooperate with the PL’s investigation into those reports

It raises an interesting question. The points deduction punishes the team that have broken the rules, but the teams that have suffered directly as a result get no compensation. The number of points gained by breaking the rules is effectively arbitrarily fixed by the deduction which could benefit a team that has not suffered because if the breach. In Everton’s case it could be one of the promoted teams if Everton go down.

The problem would be more cleanly dealt with if they were automatically relegated. I imagine that this wouldn’t be acceptable to the other clubs in the PL because their survival depends on not getting caught. Their (secret) Business Plans are of course based on schemes which they know sail so close to the wind that they are always vulnerable. Relegation for Man City etc., would be the sort of deterrent that might even frighten them to cleaning up their financial morality.

Banning offending teams from entering Cup competitions would probably be a good idea!

The thing that's grinding my gears most is work colleagues, football phone ins, fans in general have all of a sudden adopted Everton as their second team. "Hope they win the cup, show the FA" "hope they stay up now" etc.

Why? They cheated pure and simple. I bet Sheff U or Luton would love to spend 20+mm on a striker now. And then there's forest and their 20 odd players they signed after promotion. Cheating others who didn't do that such as Leeds and Leicester who got relegated

Perhaps it's a reaction to City not being punished. Despite them apparently flaunting dozens or rules I'll give you £20 they get none of their trophies taken and just get a few points off

Leicester City cheated on their way up and got next to no punishment. Leeds United are cheats in every form of the word. It’s their DNA.
