Price of Football L1 data
« on August 28, 2021, 01:01:18 am by albie »
As folk like to get giddy over what clubs are spending/should spend etc.....some facts from L1;
https://twitter.com/KieranMaguire/status/1431249435187625990

Rovers run at about £2m per season trading deficit, before Covid.
This is mopped up by the owners.

Look at the comparison with others of similar size of support.

Only thing we could do is publish full detailed accounts, like some others do.
Good practice, and it shuts up the moaners before they get up a head of steam.

Interesting to see how other clubs are a lot ore transparent with their figures.

Fleetwood!!! No wonder they have had a massive clear out.

Wimbledon seems a bit far fetched that one.

Ipswich basket case with those figures. They are going the way of Bolton and Wigan with those figures.

Total madness at some clubs. Living in a fantasy world.

Sorry, excuse my ignorance but who’s lent Bristol Rovers £19m and what they spent it on?
Won’t a lot of this be creative accounting? Shifting money about to avoid tax maybe? Not trying to be clever, just baffled

AFC Wimbledon have just constructed a new stadium, at a cost of £32m.

There's always a negative aspect if you look for it, isn't there?

It's a fairly crude analysis and not at a detailed level. It's good that someone pays this attention but I don't like the lack of context provided as untrained people will be unable to interpret what this means (indeed it's hard to without context of the many unsighted variables in play).  Essentially it only tells a tiny part of the story.  I think it's really poor to spout this analysis without explanation, commentary or detail as to what he's selected.  (Note his analysis of rovers is almost always wrong).

As for tax avoidance, wasting it on a football team won't avoid tax, you're highly likely never to see it back (and if you had this much money there's many other routes you'd go).

Think they got a new training ground recently. That amount seems excessive though.

Thanks for the info, was just looking at the super stadium they were meant to be getting, pulled the plug in 2017 after 6 years of wrangling. What’s the going rate for a league 1 training ground? Seems some crazy figures on that list, no wonder football is such a precarious business. This is what worries me, you get a consortium come in promise the earth, realise it’s not club Tropicana and you finish up in Scunny’s boat.

Just read some of the comments below those figures albie and it looks like there is a bit of disbelief from what appear to be fans of some of those clubs.

It is always interesting to see what people focus in on.

The most striking issue for me is the step up in average wages from L1 to the Championship (scroll up in the link to see the chart).
An average of £2800 (boosted by the silly buggers like Sunderland) rising to £15.6k per WEEK on average.

To me that means clubs like Rovrum and DRFC face a challenge to hold a Championship place on salaries supported by the attendances, unless a sugar daddy puts in over and above to keep status.

Rovers are a L1 club, well managed a top half L1 club.....that is how I look at it.

This is the eye opener.

The "Sack the Board" mob need to look at this before they say another word. The issue is clearly not how much the Board has put in over the years. As Gaz has been pointing out, it is how that money has been spent.
