A Well Run Club?
« on September 28, 2021, 09:49:29 pm by belton rover »
It’s not enough.
We can’t keep using this ‘yeah but look at these other clubs’
A football club should not be used as a toy by rich owners, but also, it should not be treated like another (failing) branch of a business.
For all the owners take credit for the ‘sensible’ running of our club, that just cannot be the be all and end all of running a football club.
DRFC deserves more than is being offered at the moment.

We are not a well run club.

It's all well and good saying the playing budget is in the top 7, 8 or 9 in League 1. But how many times since these people have been running things have we actually overachieved, or at least finished on a par, with the budget set? Once, maybe twice.

There's something not right somewhere. And a second relegation to League 2 in six years would be damning.

Preach.

Of course we're not a well run club. Anyone who thinks we are is a complete imbecile. I fear we're on a road out the EFL. Unless something changes.

You could always pretend to be a Leeds fan, like the rest of your towns population, but you don’t, you do the right thing and support your local team, unfortunately your in a tiny minority that do so, so just like us you’re always going to struggle if you intend to be self sufficient. This is as good as it gets for Rovers, you’re a league one club who has the odd season in the championship and league two.

You're getting double even triple our crowds and have a smaller population. The problem is way bigger in Doncaster.

Quote It's all well and good saying the playing budget is in the top 7, 8 or 9 in League 1.

It’s not at that level. The CEO said in a Radio Sheffield interview the budget was good but it would improve to be in the top half next season. He also said with planned things from Club Doncaster and to continue to be self sufficient, not reliant on the owners, it would improve by £350,000 next year.
So financially we are a well run club who doesn’t spend more than it can afford to improve the on field playing staff.
The level of players to make the team competitive in the league we can sign for that money is going backward from the evidence over the last 2/3 seasons.

We're not a well-run club. We're not a badly run club either in that we're not in danger of folding. But well run to me means you make the most of the money you spend. We're throwing good money after bad on absolute dross. There's no sign of a coherent strategy from anyone at the club. The academy pathway is a complete waste of time. What value is the new recruitment manager adding? It's clear to everyone that we're going backwards. Is that well run? Not for me.

Think this somes it up very well. The level of the boards commitment and funding can't really be questioned but there seems to be a serious gap between what they want to happen and how it's going to happen. We seem to be crying out for a football orientated position/level between board and manager to ensure any strategies put in place can continue if/when a manager leaves.
