I know this is not unique to Donny, but I found this very depressing. The town is dead. We can no longer seemingly just blame this decline on the pit closures. Digitalisation, a lack of investment, social problems like drugs, focus on car-orientated out-of-town developments, and a complete public failure at all levels of government all contribute to this.

Some parts of this area are bloody depressing, I wouldn't have moved back if it wasn't for family.

But to a point we as local residents need to make it a better place. You can invest as much as you like but the people need to make opportunities.

About 5 years ago one Sunday night, a mate and I were walking down priory place. There were three shops having their doors kicked in simultaneously by three youths in various parts of the street. Soon, alarms were going off as they strolled down the street carrying off their loot without any urgency due to a lack of fear of being apprehended.

I bet my starboard knacker that if one of us had had a piss in a shop doorway we'd have been apprehended in seconds once one of the several cameras had picked it up.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that is been reading Slouching Towards Utopia by the Berkley economics professor Brad DeLong.

His central theme was that there were two ways of managing Capitalism.

The approach through most of the 20th Century was defined by Frederick Von Hayek. "The Market giveth. The Market taketh away. Blessed be the name of The Market."

That's what leads to Donny and Eddington getting their souls ripped out. If we glorify The Market as something which humanity cannot and should not control, once a town has lost its economic raison d'etre, there's no reason why it should survive.

DeLong's cry is that this isn't the only way. From 1945 until 1980, America and the UK followed a different form of Capitalism, defined by Karl Polanyi as "The Market was made for Mankind, not Mankind for the Market."

This was a philosophy where the (undoubted) benefits that market capitalists economies have were controlled and directed by powerful Governments, which prevented the worst excesses.

We have been dominated by Hayek for nearly half a century. People have forgotten that there is another way. One that gave us massive increases in economic wealth AND shared it out more fairly than ever. And it took a Britain, much of whose infrastructure had been destroyed by the Luftwaffe, and much of what hadn't was Victorian slum anyway, and it rebuilt a decent living space.

We CAN do that again. It doesn't need a revolution. It just needs a realisation that The Market should be controlled, not left to be unleashed.

True,  however the market is not a pure entity. It does work for those few of mankind who control it. There will always be others stepping into the shoes of those few. How to eliminate that control and the perverse ideology that feeds it?

Interestingly the same bloke owns most of the Properties on Staverley street,Edlo, and Pillar House and the other bordered up mansion on South Parade!. To his credit Tory MP has been putting a lot of time and effort into sorting out Edlo,Stainy etc Nana Ross needs to kick some ass and get a grip of the Town Centre, and that includes getting the Woke Police and Crime Commisioner and even more Woke Chief Constable to commit some resources into Doncaster, all they seem bothered about is Sheffield and in CC Lauren Pultneys case her main agenda seems to be Staff wellbeing Dogs!!!
Edlington is easy to sort, comp purchase those shacks which are old Pit houses and build some nice stuff like they have further up, then get Alan Billing and Lauren Pultney to put Police officers back in the Nick, and make sure they patrol the Problem streets, they do hot spot Policing now where the Local authority pays em to target know high crime areas,  using date time analysis
So they put a Bobby on a street corner for 30 mins at a time when they know there is anti social behaviour ie outside an Off-licence at 9pm on Pocket money day!

More people will read your post if you don't throw the word woke around all the time, especially when you don't know what it means. It's tedious.

Stainy is in a Labour constituency, not sure why a Tory MP is “sorting out” Stainy

He is in Stainy regular, is an active participant in the Stainforth Towns Deal that has secured £21m of funding for various projects in Stainforth, he does plenty for Stainforth, but doesn’t shout it from the rooftops, perhaps he should

Not For All Men

Hayek's free market philosophy did not mean total freedom for all men though.

He was, during his life, a keen supporter of General Augusto Pinochet, whose death squads tortured and murdered thousands of citizens following the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende in Chile during a military coup in 1973.

“Don't confuse totalitarianism with authoritarianism,” Hayek said of Pinochet. “I don't know of any totalitarian governments in Latin America.

"The only one was Chile under Allende. Chile is now a great success. The world shall come to regard the recovery of Chile as one of the great economic miracles of our time.”

Communism, therefore, was not despised because of the violence of revolution but instead because it posed a real threat to the private property of the wealthy.

Hayek believed that only people who were over the age of 45 should be allowed to vote, and that people receiving benefits should have the right withdrawn.

Moved out of a new build in Edlo after having a meeting with the waste of space mayor and she basically said they can’t do much about the anti social behaviour on the Royal estate

And ‘they’ want 10,000 inside the Eco Stadium next season.

City status hasn’t done much to ‘lift Donny out of the dump’.
