Doncaster geographical help required
« on April 13, 2022, 10:22:41 am by DRNaith »
Hi all,

My Dad grew up in and around Carcroft. Born in 1942.

He used to talk about playing in woods. One I remember as being Bluebell wood, but I think there was another one too.

Can anyone locate Bluebell wood for me and name and locate other woods in that area where kids will have played please?

I know he would walk from Carcroft to Owston church to visit the grave of his brother who died in infancy, if that helps.

There is a bit of woodland in Owston Park when you turn off the bridle path to Burghwallis behind the school, there used to be lots of Bluebells there too

It's a lovely walk Nathan.
Like your dad I used to spend all my childhood playing in those
woods.
Park your car just after the school and enter the park to the right of the bridal path. The walk takes you past Bluebell Wood and squirrel Wood and goes past the now closed Owston Church.
Turn right there over the golf course then turn right, reaching the road, follow the road down creepy hollow and you'll eventually reach your starting point.
Only an hours walk at the most.
