Anyone else torn?
« on April 18, 2022, 09:29:23 pm by Canadian Rover »
So I've flipped flopped a lot this season. I was never a fan of Wellens as a manager for us though. Something just didn't sit right with his attitude. But I was excited by GMC & FS.

Then GMC came in - I was prepared to give him a chance to show his stuff. He said the right things - the non negotiables, the running the effort, the data, free flowing attacking football. Turns out the non negotiables were very negotiable. And his appearance went from SOD and Wenger like to looking like a bouncer from outside of the Karisma back in the day.

He and the club in turn - failed us to a large degree in the transfer window.
The lad from Portsmouth that never signed (similar-ish to Grigg MK2) JJOT chose to sign an extended contract at Mansfield - then we sign a wobbly keeper from a reserve team at Hartlepool. And then a shakier left back than Horton and a very unfit, unready Clayton (who's a decent player).

However; Younger or McSheffery couldn't get those signings either in quick enough or convince them to sign.

Younger (the player) looks way better than Williams at CB (he actually jumps up for a header) but he was dropped. In must win games we were lacklustre in effort and when we needed a player to step up to score goals our young prodigy fancied a change of scenery with the managers consent.

We've seen Hiwula brought straight back into the first team and Dodoo restored in attack above our too good to turn down signing in Agard (who was flogged like a dead horse then mysteriously dropped).

All this and I still had faith/even as recently as last week.

Now today I missed the game from 3-1 (had to run out to work) but that first half was misery.

No set up; nothing showing any tactical set up or confidence in getting a result and the defending was atrocious. He admitted we were out ran in that 1st half - imagine a team fighting for relegation didn't even run for him. He talks about the fitness issues being way off it when he came in - yet he is still in charge of a team that can't be arsed to run.

Whilst I want to stick by the manager - I don't trust him or the current support staff around him; nor the players - I believe him in saying the staffing structure wasn't good enough or the club.

My thoughts: If he gets sacked - it happens it happens.

Top post. Covers most of my feelings on the matter.

Agree with all of what you say.

Whilst I want to back McSheffrey I just think we should have seen more of an improvement than what we have. Look at how bad the bottom 6 are, a couple of wins would have made a huge difference - was that really an unreal expectation?

People are saying but we have improved recently, I think that is more to do with Bostock getting back in the team and Clayton impacting the game more because he is getting up to match fitness. The flip side is that Clayton is a good signing - was this Youger or Gary Mac?

If we do sack him, will we get a better replacement? The shortlist for this position was hardly inspiring.

My overall feeling is that given he was backed in January, that we have continued to play long ball, lack of improved performances, results and his non-inspirational interviews we need to get rid of him.

Natalie Imbruglia reckons GMcS is a slight improvement over RW but is still very concerned about the situation.

He may have been backed in January , but of the signings, who promised much, let’s not forget these are players not identified by GM.
They were down to the recruitment team.
We have seen little, if any product from this crop of recruited players.
Some blame therefore has to lay with the recruitment. Which I’m unsure GM was integral to.

Would also like to say that we should trust the board with their decision. We only see a bit of what Gary Mac does whereas they see what he does on a day to day basis.

If they really think he is building something which will turn our fortunes around then they should stick with him.

If they have doubts then they should pull the trigger because now isn’t the time for gambling and hoping he will become a good manager.

I feel for the lad but is there a more comical signing than Agard? We were absolutely crying out for an experienced and proven striker. Agard comes available and he was unmissable, apparently. We bring him in, gets 10 minutes of game time then dropped by the guy who signed him a few weeks early. Warms bench for weeks then out for the season injured. You couldn’t make it up.

CR, if it wasn’t so true, I’d have thought you’d made at least half of that up!

Good post

By the way, I don’t know how he had the balls to suggest that RW could have recruited more wisely, and earlier, in the summer! Just exactly what was his excuse for January?

Wanted it to work but I’m not torn now there is nothing absolutely nothing to suggest GM will improve us. Maybe we’ll get some better players at a lower level to paper over the cracks but we aren’t going to be a good side with him.

I don’t care that the players aren’t great GMs style or tactic or Philosoph, whatever, is pick 11 players hope it works. It’s Dickov all over again. This isn’t a loss of faith because we are down, that’s been coming all season, it’s that the future just doesn’t look good with this guy.

Have to agree, not torn at all. Unfortunately I’ve seen very little to suggest he can turn it around.

This new HoF needs a big brush to sweep out players and Management. The club needs a reset.

The recruitment team has evidently been shocking.
I will be surprised if Younger is with us next season.
Very surprised.

I think GM should go but it would be very harsh if he leave and Younger stays. I suppose another manager might come in and it turns out the signings are all pretty good with a competent coach.

But that all new signings were rubbish for RW and now GM suggest a issue with identification imo

I'm not at all torn. I'd replace him.

Nothing personal mate, but I wouldn’t trust this board with my goldfish.

Let’s be clear. The board are in absolutely no way shape or form going to sack GM. That is not going to take place. Those that want/think it will need to get their heads around that fact very quickly.

I doubt that Younger will be staying after his performance to date.

I think the problem goes much deeper than the Managerial appointments.
