Airport

Off topic; but shocked to learn of the impending closure of our airport at Finningley especially after all our efforts that went into creating an airport in the first place after the Major government’s decision to shut the RAF base - we marched, signed petitions and now feels like it was all in vein - we argued at the time it would be criminal to convert the base into a prison because we would then lose the runway which is one of the longest in Britain and thankfully with the help of campaigning groups like FLY (Finningley Locals say Yes) and DAMP (Doncaster Against More Prisons) we successfully lobbied and the airport was born circa 2004.

Now more than ever with our elavation to city status we should have an airport to reflect our ambition as an area to be a major regional travel hub.

Gutted if the Board decision comes to pass, been a coup for Donny having an airport, good for jobs and the local economy and status of the City.

Also selfishly it was convenient and close, and never had an issue there with delays - always straight through and straight off.

Hopefully there's a last minute reprieve around the corner!

Agreed. But that probably tells us what the problem is.

Peel have milked all the grants, they’ve been given land around the airport and now the want to build warehousing on it, they have mis managed it for years costing airlines more to land there than anywhere else. It has everything that Leeds/ Bradford hasn’t got but yet Leeds/Bradford thrives, Humberside is still open and nothing really flys in and out of there. Peel closed Sheffield City airport and built warehousing there, they have form for this kind of thing. This can not be allowed to happen!
