Go in the hole
« on July 16, 2022, 06:59:17 pm by Donnywolf »
With Yorks out of T20 & Rory doing well at St Andrews I decided to watch Golf and I can't believe that the crowd have got so noisy or so involved in last 10 years or just a bit longer

Polite applause for all players has been replaced with raucous bellowing on almost every shot and there are grown men paying good money to do nothing but shout " go in the hole " at every opportunity

I must be getting old (,well yes I am) but ffs they must be mad or drunk or both

More players from Sheffield in this open than from Scotland. Yorkshire is doing pretty well.

Yes .... The skill of the players in both sports is evident but I think golf fans are catching the fever darts fan have had for years

I went to Ally Pally in 72 or 73 and I was amazed by the whole spectacle of it and golf is going that way by the look of it

Some were shouting "go in the hole"as Players were driving at 340 yard holes not just as they were putting and I know they can now drive that distance with improved Club technology and such a dry course but do the fans do it just to be heard on Telly ?

Usually it's over excited Americans shouting get in the hole from a tee off shot on a par 5 610 yard hole.

Just what I was about to post. Absolutely no respect for the players or the sport in both cases.

Totally with you DW, I hate that "in the hole" shout. An import from the US.

I equally hate the "one more song" chant at the end of gigs, sounds dumb, and anyway, I always want three more!  What happened to just going mental or shouting "mooooooooooorrrrreeeeeee".

Interesting that both these follow the same pattern as the awful "U  S  A" chant.

For balance I thought yesterday was an easier watch .... much less raucous

Only one bloke shouting "light the candle" randomly which I thought was code for " hit it hard "  which was strange as in each case the Player had already taken his shot .

Cam Smith fully deserved that win. Great round of golf. Rory’s putts just wouldn’t drop for him would they!

Five birdies on the bounce at the start of the back nine won it for him, as you say Rory just didn’t get on a roll, probably if his playing partner had holed some putts Rory might have got going but that last group were always a bit flat

Agree .... probably thought he had done the job ( like a match play job) at one point but the kid that won was playing stroke play .... and taking very few of them

Fine margins a miss or two from the winner and a successful putt or two from Rory would have the Trophy in different hands but full credit to Winner ...

Well deserved
