Austerity Part Two
« on October 16, 2022, 11:04:41 am by tyke1962 »
It's coming and we all know it is , Hunt with his ideology tells you all you need to know .

Quite how they are going to dress this up with the public is going to be quite something .

The last time it was easy enough to blame Labour and get away with it .

Quite how you get away with this after 12 years of government and a PM and former chancellor tanking the economy is beyond me .

The truth is they aren't going to get away with it , firstly there's nowt left to cut back on .

Secondly the country won't stand for it and I can see trouble on our streets as a given .

I don't think that will happen, the population today are so conditioned to be compliant that you could steal the food out of their kids mouths and they would just stand there and look dumb. Instead of standing up for themselves they would be banging on the doors of the DSS and asking for handouts, pitiful.

We really are in terrible time for this country, extreme liberalism has sent us down this road of no return.

We will consume ourselves.

I don't suppose it's actually entered the minds of the Tory government that taxing the wealth might be a reasonable and fair way of raising some much needed income to distribute where it's needed .

The difference between the next batch of austerity and the 2010 version is that this everybody knows it'll be because of Truss and her cock-up, nobody else, no matter how they try to blame someone else it won't work this time.

In all the years I've followed politics in this country I have never known a government so utterly screwed as this one is right now .

No matter which move they make next leads to checkmate .

Doesn’t Ireland now have a higher GDP than the UK? Google their corporation tax levels.

If you think our economy is going to grow at the proposed 25% corporation tax, please explain how a country should better generate GDP.

Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo and Barbados all have lower corporation tax rates, than Ireland.

Australia hasn't done too badly on 30%.

We've done shite on 19%.

Maybe things are a bit more complicated than "Cut Corp Tax and get big GDP?"

Are you suggesting that low corporation tax has made those countries poor? Quite erroneous.

Firstly, you know that inflation isn’t a situation unique to this country:

Lithuania 24.1%
Estonia 23.7%
Latvia 22.2%
Hungary 20.1%
Poland 17.2%
Romania 15.3%
Netherlands 14.5%
Slovakia 14.2%
Greece 12.0%
Belgium 11.3%
Sweden 10.8%
Austria 10.5%
Germany 10.0%
Denmark 10.0%
Slovenia 10.0%

Secondly, corporation tax isn’t just tax for your huge transnationals. It affects small businesses and therefore everyday people.

If a business folds because it can’t afford tax rises on top of high gas and electric, the local economy won’t be contributed to and people will lose their jobs.

Of course the left-wing answer to this would then be increase spending on welfare and the NHS when said people were poor and unhealthy.

Anything to the right of socialism isn’t just for people to be bas**rds but an understanding that nothing comes for free.

What am I supposed to have said about inflation?

Thanks for the explanation about what left wing solutions are, mind. Very helpful.

Sorry I made a mistake on my first reply, been a long day. Was just adding context to make sure that the current economic situation isn’t wrongly attributed to the fault of just our government.

I will concede though that they have completely lost it though and have lost the next election.

No worries. I do it frequently.

I do agree that the global economic situation is grim. What I don't agree with is that that is the reason that we have just had a gilts market crisis. Nowhere else in the world has made the f**k up that Kwarteng and Truss made. The intensity of our problem is very much self imposed.
