If you can let us know what benefit it will give a place like Doncaster to twin with someone else i'd be all ears.If its just for some road signs and a civic reception with a jolly attached for some Council big wigs then i'm not sure we gain too much from it.I am aware we twinned with some places a few years ago and named some roads around Lakeside after them but not heard much since. Is this still a thing? i say that because the council don't seem to have two pennies to rub together at this time and i would imagine their priorities should be on these issues.
Just seen this - very very interesting indeed. Not sure about twinning with a place of population 4 people, but e.g. Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm seems to be the nearest place of any size, but is more than 39 steps away Maybe with new city status we should try to do more twinning - Doncaster in Australia for a start?Of places I have lived Maastricht is fabulous and has no twin in England. Carnival has to be seen to be believed and it claims to have more pubs per 100 population than anywhere else in Europe. Would be a terrific choice and wrt size and importance IMHO an appropriate choice. Hopefully its strong EU significance will put no-one off.Swansea, Bangor (County Down) and The Hague also have no twin in England I can just imagine visitors from Doncaster being amazed by the plastic pedal boat swans on Pickie Pool in Bangor ( County Down )
