I haven't seen any discussions on this forum around this subject and I feel the root cause of our problems.Whilst we now supposedly have 'significant funds' available for next seasons first team, Copps noted clearly that this wasn't for transfer fees, so we are talking wages only. There have been plenty of people on here defending that position and noting, correctly, that's how many clubs at this level operate.BUT for how many years have we had the free press tell us that player X should be in the championship if he stayed in the team and player Y dominated league 1 when he was playing. Is everyone missing the truth here? Whilst we aren't paying for players we get those that are in the free pot. They are there for a reason, they either aren't good enough or the are injury prone?! Then we sign these stars and wonder why we have a lot of injuries???? It happens every year. Year in year out.Two exceptions for me this year are Molyenuex, performed better last season in L2, and Biggins, hopefully not injury prone just unlucky. But whilst we sign people for free who 'should be in higher leagues' we will always have a busy physio.I can read the write up now when RSW signs for someone else
For some reason my original post was cut in half. I wasnt saying spend 100ks or that ALL free players were poor but we seem to be signing whats left...I referenced Copps words at the meet the owners event where he said the team identify 10-12 players at the beginning of the window and then they look at the 2-3 that are left at the end and see who to sign. This wasn't the approach when signing Marquis, wellens, Sullivan etc. Hopefully with this 'substantial funds' being made available we will be back to taking first picks rather than getting whatever is left.
