I know (hope, anyway) not everyone is being serious here but in the totally unlikely event he was willing to come here (an absolute 0pc chance scenario) we would have to blow almost all our budget on someone who in no way would last 90 minutes on a regular basis, and in the event he stayed fit for a season, would only ever be an impact player or 45 minute starter. It’s a total fantasy.

Yes after the last 3 years of recruitment we really need to be smarter, and this wouldn’t be very clever.

You couldn’t play a high pressing game if you signed Billy, that isn’t his game at this stage of his career.
I think it would be a massive boost to see him come back into the fold, even at this late stage of his career.
We know him, he knows us. A year’s contract, with a view to being found a role with the club, when his playing days are over.

He’s always had a good attitude and his personality is infectious on the pitch. Many problems to recruiting him obviously, the money, dropping down the leagues, probable interest from other clubs higher up, unlikely but you never know.

Should we create 'a role in the club' for anyone who's done a couple of seasons and been a fan's favourite?  I'd have thought the only club he would be given a non-playing role would be ambassadorial at the Blades.

Not everyone who has played for the club. Billy is someone you would want at your club. His personality and enthusiasm, plus the success he has had in his career would make him a good asset when he finishes playing. As you say more likely to take a role up with Sheffield United but if not, I would think, he thinks a lot of us.

Billy won't be coming here. He'll end up at Rotherham.

On the same theme, then, the lad from Rotherham hasn’t got much of a chance, either?

Who is to say Billy would blow all the budget.
He might be happy to come for 1 yr on 3 grand a week with the option of a 2nd yr. who knows?

Can't see him coming here, if JR was still chairman then I could maybe see it, but not now.

Sharp may have been married to Sheff Utd but Rovers were his mistress. I always imagine he'd finish his playing career at Rovers.

While I don’t think Wood would be the best signing, we are missing an experienced organiser at the back.

We aren’t missing a Billy Sharp. We need solid footballing foundations as a priority. Someone like Sharp is the cherry on top of a side that would already need to be superb.

Our transfer policy should be smarter than nostalgia and sentimentality.

Great analogy BB

He would be some player at League 2 level even at his age. Needs someone up front with him though
Miller & Lavery not suited really. Goodman needs another year I would think before he could be considered a 1st choice starter. Need a physical presence up front with him.

I think Wood is a no brainer if we could get him.
Just what we need right now.

Mistresses are ten a penny though, I think he could easily get himself a fitter one! We're hardly Vicki Michelle are we!

Got Rotherham written all over this one
I reckon he might want to finish with a promotion challenge, he won't get that there, it may come down to money in the end but if you don't ask you don't get or as my Geordie work colleague says, shy bairns get nowt, lets act on this rare wave of enthusiasm :)

Massive difference though between being a CB at League 2 and playing as a striker/Winger in the Premier League, Seria A, or any top European league.

You might score more with a less glamorous but more grateful mistress.
