ITV coverage of the EFL
« on August 12, 2023, 10:51:50 pm by In the box »
What a crock of cheap produced sh**. They clearly are not interested in reviewing the games as the lack of hosts demonstrates and only showing the goals . The same two voice overs who obviously had no real perspective of any of the matches on show . This ITV coverage has to rank as the worst produced programme on tv since the epilogue!!

I caught it last week and the 'commentary' was more interested in making as many weak puns as they could rather than talking about the football.

I never thought I’d miss Steve Clarridge & that Manish fella from the old BBC league show.

I prefer this as a concept - like when Harry Hill took on You've Been framed - should be all clips and no dipsticks in the studio wasting time talking nonsense so I like that. The commentary, as always, needs some improvement.

I prefer it  I could never stand seeing highlights and then having "experts" in the studio just watch a replay of the same goals we've literally just seen but with an extra comment with standard clichés ....."yeah he's in form and scored a great goal there"...cheers Dean Ashton but literally just saw it with my own eyes mate  :silly:

I've not seen it but if they're condensed it down by cutting a lot of the chat then it sounds a bit more watchable to me. Let's face it, three divisions of highlights is a lot to get through & the "experts" didn't have a great insight into every club.

May start watching it again, if they’ve got rid of the nonsense gabbling pundits. Brian Clough was right … just show the football and shut up.

Haven't seen the ITV version but anything must be better than the endless crap that Gary and his 'expert' chums churn out - which I have now stopped watching altogether even with the sound off

Hmm, I'd be more inclined to watch Football League highlights if they've got rid of all the surface level, filler 'punditry' and token mentions for each club.

For me, just blast through all the goals and other notable incidents, maybe throw in the odd manager interview and then show the league tables at the end. Sorted. Should be 30-35 minutes max. All the rest is just a waste of time.

I want to know about the teams we’re likely to come up against and NOT  just watch the goals without some sort of preamble or analysis  seems like we the punter are just being ignored . Pundits are often bias but knowledgeable and in L2 I’d like to know more about who signed who and what they the pundits think of our chances and progress . Publicity is important and clubs at this level are not getting their  fair !share .

I think that's the issue. If the pundits they hired were actually knowledgable or had the time/personality/skills to share their knowledge in an engaging fashion, it might be interesting. It's always seemed to me that on the EFL show (in its various iterations) that the pundits have a very surface knowledge of all the clubs/players, and seem to want to cover too many bases so just end up trotting out platitudes as someone has mentioned earlier in the thread, like "oh yeah that's a great cross and a brilliant finish from Player X, manager Y will be delighted they've got a result there today".

I'd rather have no punditry at all personally if that's the best they can do.

It might be better if they maybe focused the punditry on one or two games or clubs from each division per show, and try to provide much more insight rather than trying to race around and talk about everyone. And get some pundits on that want to provide that insight or depth of knowledge.

Manish who always said, whenever Doncaster won, "that's a good result for Doncaster." Always with the element of surprise in his voice.
