What’s irked you today?
« on August 08, 2023, 01:53:48 pm by Colin C No.3 »
I’ve just called into ‘my local garage’ (filling station) & asked to use their airline. I had a tenner in my hand & apologised saying is was all I had (remember the days when air was free?). I have been charged 20p, 25p even 50p at a motorway station.

The young lad at the till said “Do you a five & five one’s?). It didn’t compute. I said “Sorry?”. He replied “Do you want a £5 note & five one pound coins?”. He must have noticed the glazed look in my eyes as he ‘explained’ “It’s £1 to use the airline”. I said “You’re having a laugh?!” He held his hands up & said “Don’t ask me I only work here”.

I offered up my tenner with a dumbfounded look. He had to virtually prise it from my grasp.

He gave me the said fiver & pound coins & I walked the walk of a man who felt like he’d well & truly had his ‘pants pulled down’!

I thought that had faded away with the removal of lead in petrol but it sounds like there are still a few bell ends about.

Just cost me £1, yes one English pound, to pit air in my tyres. Used to be 20p.

Suppose that’s inflation for you

Bristol "Clean Air Zone". Total scam. And I'm not even in Bristol - friend got diverted through Bristol early hours today,  got confused, lost, then scammed by this. Grrrr!

And then on trying to talk to them about this, including checking if my friend had definitely gone into the zone - you can't check - I was 60th in the queue, an hour plus wait. Like they can't even provide more employment from the scam. Grrrr! Grrrrr!

The situation's getting utterly tyresome.

Tyresome yes but tread carefully when there's all this hot air about the subject, compressed onto one thread.

Some Kitson walked himself and his kid out infront of my car causing me to slam on the brakes activating the abs.
It was at a junction, he saw me coming a mile off, but made the decision to lead his kid out into the road and into traffic.
He started effing and jeffing and waving his arms around, and his poor kid was petrified, great parenting.
The highway code ludicrously now gives pedestrians the "right of way" in this situation, but it's going to result in deaths, people just losing all common sense !

Electric showers in hotels.

I mean, it's not f**king hard is it if your job is to design electric showers. The guiding principle is that if you set the dial to hot, the water should be hot and if you set it to colder, the water should be colder. And if you change the setting by a little bit, it should change the temperature by a little bit.

This morning, I spent 15 minutes trying to set the bas**rd in our room. A micro degree turn of the dial changed the temperature between cryogenic, knackers-retracted-to-your-kidneys cold to a temperature hot enough to evaporate flesh off bones and leave Hiroshima-style shadows on the cubicle walls.

Ha bleddy ha

I've been in Donny for the last 7 months, will be interesting to see the reaction here when the council realise they can exert this kind of scam.

Working all over the country, this has irked me a lot.
When they started popping up all over, mainly with not too much (a few months) notice, it seemed I'd have to upgrade my euro 5 van to a euro 6 to comply. Lo & behold, the value of mine had plummeted while finding a euro 6 replacement became a challenge, & an expensive one at that.

I'm over it now, I had to bite the bullet & found a good used van, at least. The icing on the cake for me though, was that, when the first one of these was introduced in that there London Town, the government were handing grants out, around 7 & a half grand a time, for folk to upgrade their vehicles. Only Manchester council have stood up to the government on this so far, they have all the cameras up & running but have refused to implement the charges, they're wanting to use the data to identify who might need financial help upgrading to a cleaner vehicle. The two parties seem to be in a stand off atm.

People flicking their fag ends out of their car window as they drive. Or just flicking them on the ground in general.

We’ve got to a point in our society where littering in general is completely abhorrent and unacceptable. I feel like the same people who do this probably wouldn’t chuck a crisp packet out of the car window. Yet these burning chemical sticks still seem to be deemed semi-acceptable to just be flung wherever folk want.

I had a proper battle with TFL not recognising my car as Euro 6 and hence ULEZ compliant, even though Bristol and Birmingham recognised it. I had to get the Certificate of Conformity and forward it on to them to$$ers

Nothing irks me much but reading this forum people who use the phrases
'Makes my piss boil'
and
'Tore him a new arsehole'
(makes me cringe writing them)
People who've started saying 'My bad' coz it's in vogue when usually they wouldn't admit to making a mistake.

Well said TT.
