From the Guardian live

''Hats off to Beto, who didn’t let that awful shanked effort bother him. Having scored the equaliser with a cute flick of the boot, he’s now hammered a shot off the crossbar. He looks a player of extreme highs and lows. Another agent of chaos on Merseyside? What an entertainer''

Nothing to be ashamed of we’ve given them a game but those missed chances are coming back to haunt us

It’s absolutely template cup game featuring big / small club. With predictable result.

We need to capture best of this and take it to the Swindon game. Fear is that we are now so knackered chasing this that it will be very flat on Saturday.

''GOAL! Doncaster 1-2 Everton (Danjuma 88). Beto’s scored his first goal for Everton tonight; now it’s Arnaut Danjuma’s turn! He cuts in from the left, drops a shoulder to make space, and whips a low shot into the bottom left. Everton have turned it around, and in some style it has to be said. As superb in the second half as they were dreadful in the first''

Is that 2 goals scored by a combined 45 million give or take? Hard to get too upset about that.

Sounds like we've given them a really good game and done ourselves proud. Sorry I couldn't be there.

This has been a fantastic boost for this team, just what the doctor ordered for GM and the fans. It has to bode well for the upcoming games.

Can’t help but feel Sotana should have come on earlier

This sounds right but I suspect McCann was fearful about his inability to retain possession. He can inflict serious damage, but playing against Everton this might have been more against us than them.

Struggle to see why Faal stayed on as long as he did, didn't do anything all match. However, that's surely got to give the players a boost as for 50 mins of that match we were by far the better team in every area. Nothing to be ashamed off at all.

Proud of the performance tonight and a pity we couldn’t see the game out.

I would have used our substitutes much earlier when legs were tiring.  Faal was ineffective in the second half and Setona or Roberts would have given us more up front from 60 minutes.

At 1-1 after 80 minutes, I did not feel that we could win the game so should have made sure we didn’t lose and played for penalties - that would have meant bringing on Richard Wood.  He hasn’t had the best of starts this season but perhaps his experience would have enabled us to see the game out.

Faal will be a very good player, right now his decision making can be off but that will come with experience.

Faal was my only negative in an otherwise fantastic team performance.
I thought he was sloppy and languid in possession and didn't have that bite that his teammates had out of possession.
Proud to be Rover tonight though, hopefully the lads will take confidence in that performance and carry it on into bread and butter of the league

I thought Faal did OK. Him and Joe made nuisances of themselves up front and he saw a lot of the ball. His first touch was lacking tonight, but he still did enough in that first half to be a proper thorn in their side. Faded badly in the 2nd half, but he's not had the same pre-season as everyone else. Should have come off earlier.  Taking Rowe off was the killer. We lost the midfield and handed the impetus away. Probably needed to be done though as Rowe had his best (and most industrious) game in a Rovers shirt for probably 2 years, and our injury situation left us thin of options.

Excited to see an Ironside and Miller front 2.
