He has scored three goals against us (Anderson) this season. He would have probably taken that before the season started.

There’s no way you could blame Anderson for the 3 goals Smith scored at the Eco Power. One of them, granted. Smith beat Tom in the air for his second goal as I recall, but Olowu was marking Smith (or failing to) for the first.

So you could conclude that Anderson learned from that encounter earlier in the season and was damn sure that Smith wasn’t going to get the better of him again last night. Tom looked absolutely determined to stop Smith scoring, and he succeeded.

There’s always two ways of looking at things, it just depends which viewpoint you wish to adopt.

Anderson played quite well against a player (although a good one for the level) absolutely suited to his game.

I suppose you are correct, it does depend on your viewpoint. If you are starting with a very short term perspective and judging against the very recent horror show performances we have put in, last night was ok and Anderson played ok.

If you are starting from the viewpoint that is comparing performances against what is required to be successful, ie top 6 in this league being a fair barometer, we are a long way off it, both personnel and performance wise.

I feel the clubs way of thinking is often the former, hence the current situation. Looks like a lot of fans think that way too.

I was purely commenting on the way Anderson dealt with Smith on Tuesday, compared with the way in which Smith helped himself to a hat-trick in the corresponding fixture at the Eco Power.

I wasn’t comparing Tom’s performance with what would be expected from a team in the top six, as that would feel a bit silly and irrelevant at this time.

Sorry to be pedantic, Gaz, but it's the top 7 in this league for the play-offs.
