Training facility

Excuse if there is a reason or I’m naive, but I always wondered why the training facilities where not directly next to the stadium? Land available, purely a cost decision? Or lease etc? I think it would look smart having it all together as a central complex.

Most clubs have training facilities remote from the stadium.  Not an issue.

Long term lease & with the money Terry is pumping into the training facilities, it will be even better.

Having training ground at the stadium seems to work for Barnsley. One set of changing rooms, canteen, kit and physio rooms etc.

They've got all that at Cantley Park already and it seems to work for us so why change it.

We have used the Keepmoat pitches before for training matches, particularly during the O'Driscoll era. Some also may recall Rotherham used the Keepmoat for their training base for a season while they were playing games at Don Valley Stadium.

Since then, more investment has gone into Cantley Park over time. The benefits far outweigh whar can be done at the stadium which is limited and is afterall a shared facility plus, there is more privacy at Cantley Park.

Privacy is a key point, Baz. CP is tucked away, not obvious and is a serene place to strategise and work on what needs to be worked on.

Man Utd have their similar facility at Carrington.

I suspect that given all the land close to the stadium is earmarked for either lakeside housing or commercial property the price for the land alone would be prohibitive.

Plus, it’s not exactly a long drive is it?

Cantley Park was / is so secluded that it was getting robbed on a fairly regular basis. Think there is security down there now.

More importantly are the council football pitches still there? Am I right in thinking they've gone from the straight mile?

The pitches are mainly used by Bessacarr FC now as they have the lease for the park up to Rovers training ground.
