The next six games.
« on December 28, 2024, 10:16:05 am by Usher wide. »
The ‘New Year’ for us starts on the 29th December against Colchester away where we MUST show a reaction to the away defeat at Walsall if this group’s attitude is reflected ‘honestly’ by post match interviews we hear from the manager & players.

So a draw is the minimum requirement surely.

So we move onto the 5 games we have in January, all winnable in my opinion.

We start the ‘New Year proper’ with a home game against a struggling Fleetwood side who will not finish the season in the top half. 3 points.

Another home game on the 4th against Port Vale who are struggling (like us) to find goals. We win this & start to put an end to stuttering results. 3 points.

We have an FA Cup game sandwiched between PV & an away game against Gillingham, a team that are slipping down the division & a fixture where we will continue our winning ways from the last two fixtures. 3 points.

We then have Harrogate at home on the 25th. Time we buried this ‘bogie team’ tripe & we will. 3 points.

We finish our January mini run of wins with a trip to Barrow on the 29th. Now our new striker has ‘settled in’ & we now have a cohesive midfield, we put Barrow to the sword by a big margin. 3 points.

16 points from 6 games will leave us looking down on the rest of the division & we don’t give that spot up until we win this league.

Get your money laid down now while the odds are good.

I think that the odds will be very good on all that happening.

Very cold weather forecast for the Port Vale game, worth keeping an eye on

Colchester have kept 6 clean sheets in last 6 games, 7 if you include FLT, so clearly solid at the back.

Couple that with our current struggles infront of goal, we can't assume anything for tomorrow.

That said IF we turn up and play how we know we can then we could put 4 or 5 past anyone......its getting the team selected to turn up on the day, that is GMs challenge.

A pig just flew over my house, and Cameron Diaz phoned me up asking for a date.

Ok I called the Port Vale game wrong (if only Billy’s shot hadn’t been touched onto the post) but Port Vale were VERY fortunate to come away from that game with all three points. Their fans ‘recognised that’ (looking at their forum post match), those of us who were at the game must have felt that however, we now move onto our next six games.

I think at this stage of the season it helps to do what Grant did with the side towards the end of last season & ‘break games’ down into ‘mini fixture lists’. Anyway, here goes.

After just two days to recover from the Barrow game I feel we may not have the energy to break MKD down on Saturday & feel we’ll come away with a draw. 2 points.

On the following Thursday we have a ‘local derby’ away at Chesterfield who started the season well but have tailed off somewhat. There will be a full house under the floodlights & they will come at us from the off which plays into our hands as we take full advantage of transitions & come away with a hard fought victory on the road. 3 points.

We then have our ‘nothing to lose’ FA Cup tie against Palace sandwiched between Chesterfield & our next league fixture at home on the Saturday against Grimsby. Despite the ‘distraction’ (whatever the outcome) of the previous Monday nights cup game we run out easy winners against a Grimsby team lacking ideas. 3 points.

On Tuesday 18th Feb we travel to Morecombe who currently lie bottom of the division & once again under the lights we come home with another win away. 3 points.

On the following Saturday we’re on the road again to Accrington. Despite playing on another mud flattened pitch with sparse areas of green dotted around, we’ve now got a head of steam up results wise & refuse to let the pitch & a physical opponent stand in our way as we grasp yet another win. 3 points.

Our sixth game in this ‘mini league’ comes on Saturday the 1st day of March at home in front of a growing set of excited supporters who sing & chant the team to our fifth victory on the trot. 3 points.

An astounding 17 points gained from a possible 18, 4 more points than our previous six fixtures & now were looking real title contenders as we put that winning run together Grant had called on the team to show.

The odds have tightened.

Just a slight error Usher, if we draw with MKD we will get one point, not two.
So 16 points from 18, which I will happily accept.

Well done Private Hound. I wondered who’d spot my deliberate mistake first.
