How can you use Luton and Championship in the same sentence? I wouldn't be putting my cash on that combo for next year! League One team.

Yes I meant them as a League One team!

I spoke to a club about Olowu recently.
EPL club that are brilliant at recruiting players. Basically told me they don’t think he’s a very top end L1/ Champ player.

That’s not to say he definitely isn’t but just doesn’t fit their model criteria for that level. It’s difficult to argue with what they say after their record of success.
They are totally correct.

As said before, he wouldn't have got a new contract at any point until the last 6 months, last January I wanted rid of him. He's improved hugely but can't knock him if he gets a good offer, who wouldn't take one?

Give him Sharps and Woods wages at the end of the season. Them he can form a partnership with McGrath and we loose nothing.

We’ve let ourselves down again with another quality player being in a position to leave for nothing. I agree with the theory that until this season, he’s been inconsistent, but a Year’s option wouldn’t have hurt anyone. Arguably, he’s been out best performer this season and we’ll miss him over these next 8 games, imho.

Hopefully, both parties can get something sorted.

I was talking to my postman this week. He reckons Joe Olowu is definitely Lg1 quality & if he continues in the same vein with him now carrying the ball out of defence & ‘breaking’ through the opposition midfield, with his natural pace & now physic to match, is certainly capable of being a very good player at Championship level.

I am sure Joe will sign a contract with us & go on to fulfill my postman’s judgement of him with us.

My postman is Spanish & regularly goes on family holidays with P……..no, I’m sworn to secrecy.

He's turned down a contract that he feels is low. He is entitled to do that. If they feel that's all he is worth then he will move on. If rovers have lowed balled him they will come back with a better offer. He seams a great kid to me.we should Stop speculating.

This grinds my gears - “let ourselves down”..

It’s speculation - none of us know what contractual discussions and offers have gone on.  If a player or his agent doesn’t take the offer, how have we let ourselves down?

With JO, it’s been said we have offered a contract which was initially rejected, but we’ll go back with a better one.

He will either sign or he won’t.  Either way, we trust the club to try to secure him, don’t we?

Not really, or they would have secured him before this season. Bewildering to me that in the last closed season he was deemed not good enough, three months later he’s one of our best players.

Gaz, this time last year he was nowhere near the player he has become this season for us, and it was a surprise to some the club took up his option year.
If he continues his improvement shown this season he can play at those levels easily as he gains experience, this season the first one he has had an extended run of games on the bounce since signing for us.
I think you would be the first to admit a computer screen does not show the full picture and is a base to form an opinion not the be all and end all.
This time last year I don't think there would have been many decentres if he had been released his every mistake in games being seemed to be punished and goals against being the result. This year he has been outstanding, and against Crystal Palace had a blinder against top opposition belying that teams opinion of his standard, repeating that game against the same level of opposition and how far he could go in the game  would be as far as he wanted to go to the top.

Selby, go back and watch the games he started in the 10 in a row period, that was half of them by the way, contrary to general misconception. He was as good as he has been this season. The management team and generally the fan base misjudged the quality of a developing player. Simple as that. The data said he was good and worthy of a contract as well. It was obvious and we made a mess of it.

Maybe it’s the glass half full view, but the fact the club are looking at going back with another offer means this isn’t finished

A fully fit firing Maxwell is huge for us IMO.

Thought Senior was decent today
Thought he was very lucky not to concede early on but much better in the second half.

I think it’s highly, highly likely he will be playing elsewhere next season. Shame his season has finished in the way it has.

It's fair to assume that's a high probability.

Read into this what you will. Maybe a little slip from GM right at the end of his prematch interview. "Dave and the medical team will work really hard to try and get Joe back fit and ready for next season."

Wouldnt read to much into that statement, he currently is a rovers player, the club has a duty of care to the player to give him the best possible treatment to be fit for next season regardless of which club he is at

Yes, we have to take it with a pinch of salt. Given the injury, he might be more inclined to sign, with a good release clause should we get bids so that it works both ways with us then covering ourselves with a fee. Joe Wright found himself without a club in a similar situation although Wright's injury was probably worse than Olowu's.

All speculation of course.
