Touch and go for the opening of the unused stand at Field Mill for Rovers visit;

Looking at it, I'm thinking not ready!

Quite like him. Assertive with a vision. That's what gets things done - even if he rubs some folk up the wrong way.

That was awful. No wonder it’s not ready! And that roof line is way, way too low - the view is still very restrictive.

And people moan about our stadium - dearly me!

Surprising really, given how quickly they are usually back at work.

You'd have thought they'd have done it properly and raised the roof.

I played in a tournament there about four or five weeks ago and I asked why they hadn’t raised the roof height.
They said it was something to do with planning.

If you watch the previous videos it tells you more about the planning, mainly due to the terraced houses behind that stand. It’s not really a nice area by all accounts

What a dreadful video!

“Well I think it looks better than I thought it would to be honest” …. Bloody hell, what an enthusiastic ringing endorsement that was!

I won’t be googling the previous episodes I’m afraid.

That's quite comical to me, his artistic side is painting some handrail blue, same as the steekwork on the rest of the ground. Then there's the "you said you were gonna tilt the roof" " no, I didn't,when did I say that?"

They were trying to avoid having to apply for consent by going like for like, but that was a mistake I reckon.
It would surely have been better to demolish the old stand, levelled the site, and then done a full new build.

I'd rather have local businessesmen who actually care about our clubs rather than those who might have built fancy stadiums but fleece fans at the turnstiles and try to force season ticket holders out etc.

It's not too long ago when Belle Vue was held together by sticking plaster.

They were advised that they would not get planning permission if they flattened the stand.

I thought that his enthusiasm was to be applauded. Give me that any day than the Wrexham razzmatazz. I remember when most clubs had directors like that rather than foreign businessmen.

Agreed. Seems highly thought of by the Mansfield bunch as well.

I actually watched that all the way through. He’s obviously a character.

I seem to remember standing on that side for the ‘Mansfield moment’ game. It was then a small overspill area from the main away end which was to your left as you looked at the pitch (opposite end now). Is that right?

I liked the old main stand there. It resembled Highbury. The one that replaced it is fine but just functional. Probably shows what Belle Vue might have been like if it had been developed gradually over a few years. You end up with four new but basic stands and not much of the old remains.

The old main stand at Mansfield wasn't designed, or built, for them. They bought it second hand, lock, stock and barrel, from a racecourse that had closed down. Sadly, I can't remember which one.

Later: Hurst Park.

It's also the oldest ground in the Football League apparently, hosting football since 1861

They also had an older stand before the Hurst Park one. At that time, their colours were black and white, before they reverted back to blue and yellow, which I believe were the original colours when the club was formed.

If anyone wants any more useless information, I'm here all week.
