Rovers vs Exeter City- 2/8/2025- Ross Joyce
« on July 29, 2025, 03:39:43 pm by The Red Baron »
 Referee: Ross Joyce.
Assistants: Adam Burgess and Daniel Smith.
4th official: Steven Copeland.

Ross Joyce refereed the Bradford City match in April, so he has officiated two home EFL.games in succession.

He also refereed last season's opening day match,  when we beat Accrington Stanley 4-1.

1 for the one thing he got right. The Penalty

Not one Yellow Card and there were at least 3 "tackles" that he let go including 2 after the ball had gone ones near dug outs.

One on OB late on the other slightly earlier.

Once again they wasted time with impunity and when we scored 6 minutes was added on which ironically suited them even though they caused most of the added time

I don't blame Ref for that , it's just the "rules"

He should have issued a couple of yellow cards in the first half to,put his stamp of authority on the game but otherwise not bad at all.
From the south stand it looked like we could have had a pen just before half time for a foul on Hanlan but maybe someone nearer can say whether it was a pen.
Great that he didn’t bottle giving the pen in the 88th minute so he gets a four from me.

I gave him a 3   one for sending the Bradford donkey off last season, one for awarding us the penalty and one for turning up

Pretty sure he left his cards either at home or in his car as he never once looked like he was going to book anyone, also Exeter goal kicks were a lesson in time wasting we may need to remember that one when we need it

The ref kept indicating to their keeper that he should put the ball down and get on with it but didn’t really do anything about the time wasting.

I always judge decisions by thinking how I would feel if went against us.  I would have been absolutely furious if that penalty had been given against us. I still gave him a 2 though because the time wasting, cheating tw@ts deserved everything they got.

And the really stupid thing is he went out of his way in the warm up to go and speak to both goalkeepers (and goalkeeping coaches) about the new rules which also include goal kicks Praise or grumble checked up :) and then more or less ignored them

I think I've been done. Gave Ref One for getting one thing right , but several people watching on Telly saying hard to see how Ref gave that

As CSR said we would be seething if that had been given against us

Anybody got a clip of it and Moly's Pen pls

I gave him a 3.  I think he got the big decisions mainly right, missed a few smaller ones, allowed timewasting to be hung in the Tate Gallery as an art form, and was generous on the pen (which it was, I was right behind it and the line of the ball changed, even though we still got to it in a worse position than we would have been which I think is what made his mind up for him)

I thought he was ok. He could have got his cards out yes, but he was consistent in not getting them out. People moan a lot about inconsistency but this guy at least kept it consistent. Probably between 3 and 4.
