We all probably know those famous words from Kenneth Wolstenholme.
“They think it’s all over, some people are on the pitch.”
For some reason I woke up this morning wondering whether anyone ever found out who the people on the pitch were.
Does anyone on here have the answer?

I have an extremely vague memory of Danny Baker putting out an appeal on his old 606 show for any information on ‘the people on the pitch’ but draw a blank.

He did though speak to the bloke who was working on the old Wembley scoreboard for the final. As you’ll remember it was a manual thing back then. As it turned out, this fella was around 17 at the time, a student , and had gone to the job centre to look for some part time work for the Summer. Incredibly he was sent to Wembley had given the role as one of the scoreboard controllers and fortunately for him got the final! He wasn’t a football fan at all either!

This is how I remember it anyway but I could have it all wrong!

I believe the Lad you refer to was from Republic of Ireland and a fan of Gaelic Football and one of 2 up in the gods recording the Score

I think they were mates but I took could be wrong
