The John Lewis Christmas ad

Saw it tonight for the first time.

Am I right in thinking the basic message is:

“ if you don’t know what to say to your kids then just spend money on them instead .?”

Something to do with lads and dads.

The irony is John Lewis don't sell the vinyl records in their shops. It's been released through Rough Trade records. A rave classic but I think the track is a bit handbag for the subject matter.

Isn't it the kid buying it for his Dad?
Sure I've seen another similar ad (I don't take too much notice) going for the angle of "you don't need to spend money to make Christmas special", while hoping you do spend money, might have been tescos?
