A good friend of mine and a member of our football club is a cousin of Ron Flowers.

  Played against them a couple of time at Cortonwood MW as a youngster.
  Their manager used to go spare if you booted one of their players who were always physical themselves and not slow at coming forward.
  Always a good side in the Northern Intermediate League were the Wolves satellite side.

My memory may be MISremembering but it is telling we that Wathm in those days was a feeder club for Wolves  and they played ( as Rovers   juniors did ) in the  Northern Intermediate league ??

  Mark Crooks was the manager of the set up one that uncovered for Wolves players like Roy Swinbourne, Gerry Dally, Peter Knowles, and quite a few others that went on to play for Wolves  and in total 108 players that played league football including 17 that ended up at Barnsley.
  A hot bed of top class young local players mainly from the South Yorkshire coal fields area.

Selby ..that was my generation though you have more detailed knowledge as I only lived it as a 15 / 16 year old junior footballer .
Wolves / Wath had a very switched  on local scouting system ( compared to our Rovers where you virtually needed to knock on a Belle Vue dressing room yo  get a trial ) ..or in my case have a Dad who drank  after hours at Ridgewood  pub in Edenthorpe run by Rovers youth  team coach Ernie Swallow .
Four of my contemporaries at Thorne Grammar where we had a Rugby  only culture played for Wath .Not a single Thorne Grammar student played at Rovers probably  I now realise it was the fault of their Dads .
I know Selby follows local talent closely and admire how he recounts anecdotes about the progress of individuals  he monitors .

  If you search on line Mark Crooks there are articles on the set up and the presentation of a Blue plack recognising his and their work at the club.
 I got some of the information from that source I have posted as I have always been interested in the intermediate league as my father and Mr Richardson plus others were representing the Doncaster Referees Association at the original meeting to form the league when the proposed member clubs and officials drew up the rules and agreed to form the league in Barnsley.
  Middlesborough and Sunderland plus the Sheffield sides were the driving force to form the league according to my father.

In that era DRFC also ran what they called an A team     as well as the Reserves .The Northern  Intermediates was essentially U 18s and yes Sunderland ,Middlesborough , and both Sheffield clubs fielded sides,as did Scunthorpe and Rotherham, but not Leeds nor Barnsley though we dod play them in Cup  games , bringing Bremner to Belle Vue for the first time as a Leeds Junior.I do somewhere have a Rovers  v Leeds juniors team sheet with his name on it ,and surprisingly no stud marks .
