A Neutrals View of Last Night
« on February 17, 2010, 01:06:31 pm by Albert Trousers »
Taken from another football forum:

Went to the game as a neutral and Sheffield Wednesday put in one of the worst performances I have ever seen (and I have seen a few). They let Stock absolutely run the show, never closed him down or marked him properly. Donny were allowed so much space to find passes and even on throw-ins they were always given an easy option. It was as if they were playing a narrow zonal marking formation all the time. I was shocked at how basic the problems were and that they were not sorted after half-time. Wednesday's tactic seemed to be to let Donny play through them, hope they missed then boot it up field and hope something came of that. Awful team.

However, Doncaster were simply superb. The passing and movement was excellent. They kept possession well and if it was not for two superb last-gasp tackles in the first half we could have seen a cricket score tonight. The midfield were superb, I don't know the names other than Stock who was MOTM for me. He always looked assured and able to pick a good pass. It helped that he was usually in ten yards of space. Why Wednesday didn't man-mark him I'll never know. Some of the football Donny played would not have looked out of place in the Premier League. The goalkeeper made a couple of good stops too. And the first goal was brilliant. Bicycle kick in off the bar. I really enjoyed watching them.

Donny completely bossed the first half and in the second were able to play on the break a bit more. Wednesday never really got hold of the ball and built any pressure. I'm surprised at that stat about them being in possession more than Donny because all I saw them do was panic and belt it clear.

Well done Donny. If I were a Wednesday fan I'd be very worried about going down. On tonight's performance I think my 5-aside team could have given them a good seeing to.

Good piece, Alberto.  Where did it come from, out of interest.

is this the first post that anyone can remember to (nearly) use the words 'Mark Wilson' and 'superb' in the same sentence?

That came from a Man City fan, didn't it? I'm on that forum, got the bit about Ward from a Cov fan on there yesterday. The Wednesday fans have all been pretty humble and sensible with their views on last nights game as well!
