Sky HD

Is it worth the extra £10 a month? One friend tells me yes another said he cannot tell the difference! Should he go to Specsavers? :)

It WOULD be worth £10 a month IF Rovers were live on the box as many times as Newcastle have been this season.  ;)

As for the difference in quality of pic... yes it's a better picture, truer, richer colours, crisp and clearer and in a footie game, the players are not being followed by their own shadow. Movies are a far better experience too....

Is it worth £10 extra a month though ?...... NO it aint.!

Utter w**k.

If you have more money than sense then feel free to waste £10 a month.

There is very little visible difference in picture quality, in fact more often than not people watch the regular channel thinking they are watching the HD version! Just a gimmick which Sky are pushing hard at the moment to try and stem the flow of customers they are losing on a monthly basis.

I see a fair few televisions in a week and won't be parting with my hard earned in a rush.

Actually, Sky have grown their customer numbers significantly over the past year.  The feeling in the industry is that folks have opted to spend more on staying in than going out through the recession, and adding more TV channels seems a logical choice.  Coupled with a very attractive broadband deal it makes a compelling case.

Cant comment on HD though as I only have the Sky+ box, but with a good quality TV (I have a Toshiba AV635 which is excellent) the \"normal\" picture is very good indeed.

I'll take your word for Sky increasing its customer base. I had heard otherwise but can't prove either way (not that I really care that much anyway  ;))

There are varying degrees of HD quality programmes out there. For me its worth every penny, just take a look at some of the BBC nature programmes and then tell me you can't tell the difference.

I guess it depends what you use it for.  I'll watch the odd footy match and the odd programme every now and then.  I rarely watch nature programmes so wouldn't notice much difference.  Also it must depend on the quality of your televsion set.

I just don't like Sky charging an extra browny when they already get the best part of £50 from me each month.

Just got HD last month. The difference is amazing IMO. Footy, Golf, Cricket.....it really is like being there. The nature stuff is good as said.

We have a large flat screen turbo nutter bas**rd tele and it's still improved the picture no end.

However, come the first sign of a cut back in Cusworth Palace, then this will go (after my 12 months are up). Trouble is once you have it, you don't want to lose it. A bit like going back to a fat tele or a little tele

Agree with you Cussy the picture quality of HD is perfect and we only got it because we wanted Sky plus and the HD came with it.Got a big Samsung tv and its all systems go.
Cant fault the Quality of the picture on HD but if your tv is a bit dodgy you wont see much of a difference.I still think It is over priced though as Sky are building a bit of a monopoly on the satellite tv at the moment. There is no one really to take them on,which is bad news for the punters.

Well for the sake of an extra tenner I've deceided to go for it.

Partly cos I've still got an original bog standard sky box, partly cos I've a full hd ready telly, partly cos the kids had a spate of using the sky dish as a basketball hoop   and its moved a bit. partly cos I've moved the telly  and I've got wires everywhere.
Free installation...if only they knew

Doesn't it depend on the resoloution of the HD tv you buy, some are only 1/2 HD hence some people not noticing the difference, I have virgin with ESPN HD and the difference is emence (flick between normal & HD proves it)

I had it for over a year and the number of programmes now shown in HD are rising all the time. I find myself watching more and more documentaries purely because they are broadcast in HD.

It all depends on the tv and whether its full HD or HD ready. I feel its worth every penny. The HD even upscales the normal channels (Not by a lot though)

Even watching the simpsons in HD is brilliant. Until you have had HD you will not understand how bad the Standard Definintion quality actually is
I got a letter through today with vouchers that entitle the holder to a free hd box, free install and three months hd subscription free if you would like one. just pm me
