A barometer for success
« on April 11, 2010, 06:09:19 pm by The Shining Light »
Well I've managed to work through most of the drivel that has been posted since 17.00 yesterday on here, not much about the game, so apologies in advance for going off at a tangent here.

I've lost count how many times this season we have outplayed top teams for most of the game only to lose out for a) not having a killer instinct in front of goal or b) making those mistakes which seem to haunt us.

What a game yesterday, end to end, shots, crosses, passes and generally everything you would want to see every week at a football game. With Billy playing yesterday I imagine the scoreline may of been different, we were exceptional; the work rate and footballing play was a job to watch, if only Roman Bednar was wearing red and white - and really that is the only difference between the sides.

I lost count of the amount of times he was offside, it was never marginal either, it was 2 or 3 yards every time, I was beginning to become disappointed with him until I realised why he was in the team and why he had such a good goal scoring record. That guy was the only difference between two teams yesterday, him and of course the mistakes we made and they didn't make. How good it was to see the Pub team from Doncaster giving the big boys a run for their money again, I would of loved a third just to get the WBA fans listening to their radio's again.

At the end of the day you have to sit back and look at the facts, the fee's they will have paid to clubs and agents in exchange for players will far, far outweigh those that which we have paid, the wage bill of such a club will be totally gross compared to that of ourselves and the support they get through the gates which aides such financial disparity just shows how bloody well we're doing; all this considered without the huge parachute payments even being mentioned.

And what does all this money buy? A crack at the Premier League only to come down again? No thanks, I'm quite happy where we are, competeting with the best teams in the leauge on far less limited resources. WBA, Newcastle and the likes of Forest have only just scraped past us, the table shows they are fairing better, but it the long run, who really is fairing better?

JR, SOD, ROK and others, the achievements this season and in those of the past 12 years surpass anything Newcastle and WBA will ever acheive; I raise a glass to you all.

Here, here! Considering the amount of first-choice players absent, yesterday's performance was all the more creditable and a very good indication of how this club has progressed since we arrived in the Championship. All credit as well to SOD for not complaining about the injury situation, unlike old 'Blamewell' up the road.
I really believe if we managed to keep our key players fit for the best part of the season and added a bit of quality, next year could be a very memorable one indeed!

Completely agree.  All of the other stuff posted on here, stats, player favourites, critiques, personal insults, moans..... pales into insiginificance against what you've just said.  At last someone has managed to sum up the way I guess most of us who visit this board truly think.

Let's just appreciate these good times and acknowledge those who have/are contributing to it, instead of jumping on this bandwagon of insatiable thirst for ever greater achievement.
