Lewis remains top guy
« on April 11, 2010, 05:19:06 pm by Matty »
On-loan Lewis Guy is set to stay with Latics for the remainder of the season.

Latics have struck a deal with Doncaster which will enable the 24-year-old striker to remain at Boundary Park.

Guy is also happy to see out the season with Latics as he is guaranteed first-team football, something which is not the case at Doncaster.

Latics are expected to complete the paperwork to extend the loan on Monday which will enable him to play at MK Dons on Tuesday.

Doncaster have a 24-hour recall clause in the deal in the event of him being needed at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Guy has scored in the home wins against Gillingham and Bristol Rovers as Latics have taken two enormous strides towards safety in League One.

Even better the Oldham fans think he's brilliant!!!  Good on you Lewis, here's hoping Penney stays in the job long enough to make it a permenant move next season.

Is this the same person everyone slagged off when he signed for us?

absolute OMEN this guy. signed him for wrexham in the conference on footy manager 2010 and he banged in 18 goals and guided us to promotion via the play offs. few days later he signed on loan for the latics in real life!

i hope he can stay till the end of the season as what chaddy smoker said was bang on, came in to do a job and has surpassed his needs with great commitment and passion to a club he barely knows. if only the rest of the squad would take a page out of his proffessionalism handbook, even though its their permanent club.

He's finally found someone who wants to play instead of tossing it off for the cash. Then again if his contract's up at Donny he's gonna need a job. He'll do for us.

Maybe we can work some swap deal involving Chris Taylor. About time he challenged himself at a higher level rather than sitting in his comfort zone.

I've seen him twice this season and he was shit both times.  The lad I went with has missed three games all season and says he's been like that ever since Penney came in.  Seeing as Penney has always loved wingers it seems strange that Taylor has gone so off his game...

I'm no fan of Lewis Guy by any stretch, but on what I've seen and what my mate has told me I'd rather have Lewis back.  Maybe SOD could work his magic, but I get the feeling Taylor isn't half the player you all think he is.

Im no Guy fan either but he probably would perform alot better if he didn't have the fans on his back every time he plays for the Rovers, something he hasn't got at Oldham and they seem to rate him all be it at a lower level.

What gets my goat, is that some still can't get off his case even when he's not here!
Be happy for the lad and leave him be. It's not like he's ever done anything wrong. I have more respect for him than say Matt Mills who couldn't wait to get away.
Lewis has given me at least one lasting memory- Our fist goal in the CCC! A great day. :scarf:

...or as said, he's in his comfort zone. Needs a kick up the arse, a session of teabagging and some coaching magic of SOD/ROK......or he's playing in a shit team who are struggling like he's not known and playing with crap players (as opposed to playing with Davies, Hughes, Ardley/Eardley, Kilkenny)

From what I have seen, he is a good player that can easily be found again. Put him in a decent team (DRFC) and IMO he will shine.

I've got to agree with that Cussy.  The lad who terrorised us two years ago must still be in there somewhere.  He was technically excellent, and that is something that SOD likes to bring to the fore in his players.

A swap deal with Lewis could be a good deal for both parties.   :silly:

Or maybe, as I hinted at there is more going on with Taylor than is known by the general public.  There's a reason he doesn't want to leave Oldham and that same off-the-field reason is why I doubt he'll ever pull on the shirt of another club or fulfil any potential he may have.

We've been down this road before with players who looked great when playing against and turned out to be distinctly average when we sign them.  I've been fortunate enough to watch Taylor a number of times since we stepped out of League one, he hasn't impressed on any occasion and the telling factor is that the Oldham fans aren't overly bothered about him staying.  Love to be proved wrong....
