Diverse opinions
« on June 11, 2010, 09:00:49 am by Sarge »
I been away for a while, my god reading some of the stuff on here you’d think we’d only got a team of youth players on the books at present.

The great thing about football is the diverse opinions people have when seeing the same game. You can take this on a step further and the even more diverse opinions people have on the club overall. For what it’s worth I wanted to share my opinion of DRFC.

I’ve been a season ticket holder since 1997-1998, bad start I know! through those wilderness years I had some fun times and enjoyed the non-league scene, missing the connecting train at Hendersford back to Birmingham 3 times, leaving the pub a little too late each time but finally making it home. Back then sat it that pub with stitch after running for that third train sat with friends I could have only dreamt of reaching the CCC. But we still here, Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think about the success we as a club & fans have enjoyed over the last few years. Some clubs & fans would give a kidney to have tasted a fraction of what we have & yet some still moan!!

I don’t know anyone at the club whether that be behind the scenes staff, backroom staff, players, management or anyone on the board of directors, so all that I’m about to say is opinion based on the various media sources (excluding DROS – obviously)
I would say off the field we’d be in the bottom 3 or 4 in CCC with regard to the budget we’d have to spend on new players and would class the likes of Scunthorpe, Millwall & Crystal Palace as the teams that we’d be able to compete with from a financial point of view. It’s been said before & I’ll say it again we are a very small fish in a big pond. To think that we’d be able to compete from a financial point of view with any of the other clubs is blinkered to say the least. Any player that we can attract to this club that we are in direct competition with from any other CCC club will be done so in my opinion via the work of SOD/ROK & JR and KM2 & this is a big credit to these guys when we do make these signings.

So we’ve lost out to Shack, gone to Barnsley & if your believe what the media says even his agent couldn’t believe the about of money Barnsley offered. Fair play to him, good luck to him, it’s a short career & most players are going to go where the money is, wouldn’t you? How much he’s on we’ll never know but the discison was made that the value Barnsley placed on him didn’t  match that of SOD & JR & fair play to them to sticking to their guns.

Same goes for Ward & Kennedy if you again believe the media, the valuation from a salary point of view that Rovers placed on both those players differed quite considerably to what the clubs they eventually signed for placed on them & again fair play to those players, no hard feelings, money talks in this game today more than any other time I’ve known it.

Will we sign players? I’m sure we will. Will we get Sharp? If money isn’t the over-riding issue with Billy himself, we’ve got a chance. Will I still be there come August? Yes I will, because it doesn’t matter to me who pull’s on the Rovers shirt as long as the player is here because he wants to play for Rovers & gives his all. That’ll do for me.

I could have made this a lot shorter in my overview.
Off the field we streets behind most of the teams in this seasons CCC. We’ll have one of the lowest budgets & lowest average attendances. But this to me matters not, as we’ve been in this position for the previous two seasons.

On the field we’ve proved time & time again that we are a match for anyone in this league & proved this with the off-field hindrances we have. It’ll be the same this season, but I’m sure if we can hold on to the players that we have, recruit a couple of new faces then we’ll be the perennial over achievers in my eyes any again.

Who would you rather support a team that’s directors maybe playing Russian roulette from a financial point of view & may end up in administration or a team that you’ll know will be still here come May? I know which one I’m going with.

On a side issue I saw SOD in the Asda Dome down the meat aisle the other day; he was on the phone talking about the water carrier? Could Didier Deschamps be joining the rover’s back room staff? More likely that he was buying his wife a new water bottle for the gym, No doubt this will be on the Football Rumours site by lunch – lol

Enjoy the Summer & World cup ladies & gentleman.
I feel much better having got that off my chest.
