Celtic matchday advice
« on August 03, 2010, 05:55:58 pm by coventryrover »
Hi guys.

I am working 15miles east of glasgow for the next couple of days and instead of watching tv tomorrow evening i thought i would take in the celtic v braga game.

I have never been to celtic park before so wondered if any one can give me advice on best way to get to the ground, safest place to park etc etany guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Only thought of the idea on the drive up so forgot my new rovers shirt, but they may have thought it was an accies one anyway.

Last time i went was the Celtic Vs Blackburn UEFA Cup tie back in the year they got to the final. All i remember is that we got a minibus to the ground with a bunch of celtic fans from Stirling and had to walk up this really long road to the ground and was getting constant abuse from the rangers fans who live in the houses on that road.

Needless to say the atmosphere was amazing and i loved every minute of it.

Unfortunately can't really help you with the car parking aspects but i thought i'd share my experience!

Been past the ground a few times visiting the railway depot at Polmadie....the place makes Stainy look like somewhere, infact anywhere exotic. I think it is twinned with Toll Bar.....
Plenty of side roads but whether your car will be there after the game is a different matter.
I'm also hopeful they get beat....

If you head from george square its only a 10 mins drive, basically straight all the way heading away from the town, obviously you cant miss it (its the big green shithole infront of you) parkings at your own risk tbh mate, cause it wil either get wrecked by celtic or rangers fans depending on the score

I thought about going to this game, but then looked at the ticket prices and nearly choked on my cornflakes when I saw they were charging £28.

Think I'll go Everton or Wigan instead for a poxy tenner!!!

May never get the chance to go again and it beats staring at hotel walls. Just want to taste the \"famous\" atmos but concerned about the parking.

Be afraid... be very afraid!

I went to the 'friendly' at Lincoln last week with my son in law, who's an ardent Celtic Jock.  They are barking.  I haven't ever seen so many fights and incidents at ANY match, and they were all fighting amongst themselves right through the match.

Fcukin bonkers.

Why not get there early, find a local hostelry with a car park, have some scram and a beer, then get the landlord to call you a taxi to the ground?  Simples.  After the game, taxi back to said hostelry to collect your car.

Yeh mate been up t'watch the Celts a few times'  There's a few parking area's on the Gallowgate (thats the other long road that runs the opposite side of the ground to London Road) There is parking and side streets on London Road but there about a 25 minute walk away from Celtic Park.
Be careful in Glasgow its rough as f*ck and certain places are well dodgy' stay away from a small area called Bridgeton its between the ground and the city centre at the side of Glasgow Green. Its a Protestant/Rangers only area in the East End and 2or3 fans over the years have had their throats slit and been killed trying to take a short cut back from a Celtic game (like i nearly did) haha'   I know your just a normal footy fan wanting to take a game in but its serious sectarian divide up there but apart from the do's n donts the atmosphere is something else! it might not be as good as a 'Old firm Derby' atmosphere seeing as there losing 3-0 from the first leg but it'll still be impressive.

Hope you have a good night n C'MON THA HOOPS!!

Aparently, that place is the original Hampden Park before it was renamed Cathkin Park

Didn't know that. But I do recall that the biggest ever crowd at that place in the pic was something over 30,000. Hard to believe really. The club was reborn by the way. IN a minor sort of way but there is a Third Lanark playaing at some sort of level in Scotland.

Mind you, I never did know - just where the devil IS Third Lanark? :):) Even knowing where Second Lanark is would do.

I went to glasgow a few weeks ago and visited this place, it is still full of character and it is great to see some of our football heritage being preserved rather than just being wiped out.
