Sad to report the death of ex Rover Billy Mordue. Born in Bentley in 1937, he was a  defender at Belle Vue from 1957-1961.Billy made his Rovers debut on the 28 August 1957.

He made 78 League appearances (plus 4 Cup appearances) between 1957 and 1961 after signing from Bentley Colliery. He never scored a goal for the first team. After leaving Rovers he appeared for Scarborough.

RIP Billy Mordue.

a giant of a defender ... a gentle giant though ! Fond childhood memories though I now see he was not much my senior !

Remember about 1967 Billy bought a new Vauxhall Viva van from Thompsons and had an hell of an arguement with them. In them days a heater was an extra and when he went to pick it up there wasn't one in.
He won the arguement.  :)

I borrowed Billy's painters van several times in the 80's to get my band to gigs. He was a nice bloke. Used to pack all the amps in with the paint cans. Went to Scotland in it once with 14 of us crammed in.
