Accrington/Putterill
« on October 14, 2010, 06:02:46 pm by Dutch Uncle »
I see Accrington have pulled out of the JPT after fielding an ineligible player - new signing Ray Putterill who they did not realise was under a 42 day ban for a county league match. He also played against us in the League Cup first round defeat, and I guess he was also ineligible then. Of course that competition has progressed several rounds so reinstatement is not an option - but would we be likely to get any compensation?

Very good point, though I doubt anything will come of it unless we kick up a fuss

I would imagine the League Cup isn't any different to any other cup competition and you have to supply your squad list to your opponents ahead of the fixture date. You can then only field players from this list. This is so that your opponents (in this case Rovers) can check the availability of a player. Therefore, if I were in charge of the competition, I'd tell Rovers to check things like they should!

Rovers do have a history of not checking the rules and availability ie Ben Futcher playing in the County Cup Final when he wasn't eligible!

Anyone can check suspended players on the FA website, from grassroots up to the Premier League. Just takes a bit of time and effort.

Has Putterill not also played in league games - therefore could they be in for a points deduction? Should it be the clubs job to check eligibility, should it not be the league telling Stanley that this guy is suspended and therefore not available to play him?

if anyone should check the eligibility of a player it should the the organisation in charge of the competition, failing that the referee should check eligibility, all it takes is the organising body to supply a squad list of the 2 teams playing to the referee with up to date suspensions. In this day of electronic mail it can`t be that difficult

A very astute point. SURELY the FA should tell the Club involved who is and who is not available to them otherwise Rovers (in this example) would have to check every Player in the opposition SQUAD in case they try to play them - very beaurocratic ....

.... OR the opps tell the Rovers well upfront who their starting line up and subs are going to be - and just in case - who they have standing by just in case of late injury or illnesses !!!!

Clubs receive notification of players suspensions involving their own players. They can also log on to Member Services to quickly look at a players availability within their own team.

It is not the ref's responsibility to check if a player can or cannot play.

It would be a bit embarrasing if we appealed for compensation. We should have walloped Accrington and to then say that a player from two divisions below us made such a difference would be a joke. The players on the pitch should have done the job on the day
