snowfalls are now just a thing of the past

\"Children just aren't going to know what snow is\"

\"David Parker, at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research in Berkshire, says ultimately, British children could have only virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes - or eventually \"feel\" virtual cold\"

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/snowfalls-are-now-just-a-thing-of-the-past-724017.html have a look when it was written!

I can't open the link so I can't see whether this was a recent piece or one that was written when the \"global warming\" hysteria was at its height.

Sounds a bit like that A&R man who wouldn't sign The Beatles because \"guitar bands have had their day.\"

There's no \"hysteria\". It's a fact that the average temperature is increasing rapidly. No argument whatsoever.

What we are seeing at the moment is \"weather\". It happens. Even if the climate is hotter. It snows in Athens sometimes but that doesn't mean that they don't also have a fcuking hot average \"climate\".

The bloke at the Berkshire Met Office should have thought twice before being such a drama queen and making a dick of himself. But even if he looks stupid, it doesn't changecthe underlying facts if temperature rise by 0.001 degree.

EDIT:
Actually, having just read that piece now, what possible argument can anyone have with it?

They say that cold winters and heavy snowfall will still occur, but will be rarer. Correct. We've had two bad winters un a row, but before that, we've hardly had a snowfall since the mid 90s. Last January was bitterly cold, but go and have a look on the Met Office site where they give the monthly average temps for the last 100 years for all their weather stations. From the 80s back, every 3 or 4 years there was a January colder than last year's. We've forgotten just how cold it was almost every winter when we were kids.

2) They say that when the winters are bad, we'll be unprepared for it. Correct. Manifestly.

So, TRB and Boomstick. What exactly is your point?

So do you think climate change is caused by man?

I don't gonon opinions. I go on scientific probability.

It's clear that the climate changes constantly, due to natural variations.

It's also pretty well confirmed that increases in CO2 in the atmosphere lead to higher average global temperature.

Human industry has significantly increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere during the Industrial Age.

Over the last century, there has been a steady increase in global temperature.

The rate of increase has accelerated over recent years - the last two decades have seen 10 or so of the hottest years since records began.

We produce vast quantities of CO2: CO2 increases temperatures: Temperatures have increased. Occam's Razor time.

What's your take? Is it all a big Liberal Pinko Conspiracy?

Oh no, here we go again. The ignorant and insane reading the tripe written by half educated rightwing press journalist's rubbish and taking it as gospel.

Before it starts listen to the last ten minutes of the Now show on Radio 4 on the BBC iplayer. Marcus Brigstock does a good commentary on the denial of the facts.

Actually, to be really picky to BST's post, we've had three bad winters in a row now. February 2009 (around the Villa game), January 2010, and again over the course of the last week.

We also had a bit of snow last February (2010) as well, which nearly caused the postponement of the Leicester game.

The climate of the World is not the same as the weather where you live. Consult a Geography book.

Funny, isn't it, how whenever someone challenges an orthodoxy on here they are branded either ignorant or a crypto-fascist or both.

The climate changes all the time. We went through a spell when global temperatures rose. Now it appears they may have peaked around 2007. Let's not forget that in the 70s there was spell when the scientific orthodoxy of the time held it that we were in for a new ice age.

Oh- and by the way Barmby- some of the proponents of the climate change/ global warming theory argue that the recent cold winters in northern Europe may be a result of global warming.

I'm a natural sceptic and recognise that while most scientists may be honest in their findings, some undoubtedly have an agenda.

Quite right RB, that is just the point I am making, our weather is not the World Climate, science works on looking at evidence and analysing it, then having it confirmed by other scientists until a consensus is formed. 95% of climate Scientisits now believe that the theory about climate change is probably caused by the effects of using fossil fuels which release stored up CO2. I would rather believe them than worry about conspracy theory from the internet bout scientisits who have an \"agenda\".

Well whatever is causing it, I hope it keeps going because business is booming.

This week has gone mental mate. Just as well really as it's going to get really shitty at Network Rail sooner rather than later.

The earths climate changes in cycles, the anthropomorphic global warming THEORY only draws from data collected in a rediculously small period of time of earths history. There is also data that suggests that when the climate warms then so does the co2, and not the other way round.
There is no hiding the fact that this will be the 3rd winter in a row with below average temperatures.
