SOD - a Tribute and my take on things

There's my view of the O'Driscoll affair.  As ever, all open for  discussion.

Another one about the new regime is in the pipeline!

Agree 100% with everything you've said, i'd also throw in that SOD persuaded Copps to stay as Copps was very close to leaving us but stayed because of SOD.

Good review FD , I'm surprised this post has been on here for 2 hrs. and has not yet been commented on.
Imo he was/is a great manager and will in time join our pantheon of greats.

Great write-up.

Sean was a football purist with little or no time for the media, the board or even the fans.  We saw some fabulous technical football at times (and to be fair, winning football for some of it), but he ignored the tribal instinct that really drives this game.  It's about football and it's also not about football.

I would encourage everyone to read the article referred to in the piece - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1312704/Doncaster-boss-ODriscoll-explains-secret-success-Keepmoat.html

Another great interview with a manager that really was brilliantly different.

First of all thanks for the great comments, Viva Rovers also wrote a great article on why the board was wrong to sack O'Driscoll so I know my place:)

There were many more things I could have said.  Integrity, loyalty, originality and football purism being a few buzzwords.  The public face that we saw in press conferences, I believe is a real barrier to his becoming a top manager.  At first I found him difficult to get enthusiastic about because of this.  It was only when I'd read a few articles like \"The Secret of his Success\" that I realized I needed to make more effort with him.  He'd not get away with that at a bigger club.
