Kids sunday league
« on September 30, 2011, 08:28:14 pm by billdoor »
My son wants to play for a under 14's sunday league team. He had a trial this week and the coach said he was in the team. He just had to fill in a form and pay £60 up front,to cover training for the year.
In my day, you paid every training session you went too.
Is this the norm, when joining a team, nowadays?

ps I feel like a right old fart, having to ask.

One of my mate's lads played for a side until recently. Some of them ask for it week by week, others ask for it in one go. Depends on the team really.

We (Sprotbrough and Cusworth Crusaders) ask for it in 3 installments through the year.   It is up to the club,  but 2 points here.

1). The club has costs to cover - player registration fees, pitch hire, insurances, etc..
2). Taking the money up front is proven to ensure players don't drop out halfway through a season.

Firstly I hope you son enjoys his new team.

It is down to the individual clubs, and many have been caught out in recent years due to the change in the FA debt recovery system, and upfront payments is now the norm.

£60 is very cheap. Some teams in Sheffield for example charge £350 (that includes a tracksuit)

To give you an example, our (Bessacarr FC) annual subscriptions are higher then that and it only cover 60% of our running costs. We have to fundraise/look for grants to cover the remaining 40%. Saying that we do offer an education package (level 1 and or referee course) to all players who are U16+ as well as subsidise an annual European Tour for the U15
